I guess I am old fashioned the idea of ordering something and then returning it when there is nothing wrong with it other than I dont like it just smacks of dishonesty to me.
Maybe the way of the world today I guess still dont feel like joining in on that type of behavior.
Then again a strong ...

Re: What is your favorite high Carbon non stainless steel?
A lttle off topic here concerning the new blade coating.
#1. Is it even out yet?
#2 Is this new coating because current DLC takes too high of temperature to apply and possibly effect certain steels.
#3. Observation I have a PM2 in DLC and the coating does not adhere as well as it does to S30V, Did ...

You have no idea how often I wish there was an actual store with Spyderco in stock, around these parts it is sadly not a thing.

Re: I would like to propose a sales model for Spyderco
Used good abused no. Pretty sure Spyderco could fix it up if needed, but these knives would be part of the rotation, heck a used knife could even give you a better idea of how great they are.

I call it try before you buy.
Let's face it Spydercos catalog is very deep with all the models and steels so the idea of What If? Came to mind as I research steels and models yet again.
It looks something like this.
What if Spyderco would offer a trial with option to return or buy?

Re: What is your favorite high Carbon non stainless steel?
Maintenance is easy I live in Florida on the beach, I use frog lube, stuff smells like peppermint, that shocked me at first.
A little goes a long way just spritz and wipe let it get in the pivot too.
Bonus good on guns just dont overdo it wipe clean good to go.

Re: What is your favorite high Carbon non stainless steel?
K390, 15V, Rex 121 -- love me some high carbide volume steels. CPM 3V, as well. But also, at the other end of the edge retention spectrum, good old O1.
Sounds like you have alot of experience with these steels, how would you compare each to K390? That is the only one I have experience with, how ...

What is your favorite high Carbon non stainless steel?
I am currently enamored of K390 which I did not like in the police 4 back in 2018.
(I was in search of what is called Magnacut back then and thought stainless the be the way)
(also failed to realize a properly oiled blade does alot to mitigate tape gunk)
Cruewear is right up there with K390 ...

Interesting read for sure, thank you. What have you guys observed to be the best steel for sticky sharpness so far K390 is pretty darn impressive. I know sharpening has alot to do with it but so does the steel.

Re: Wootz?
Thank you for the reply and examples of what is out there.
I once handled a Chris Reeve sebenza with a ladder pattern damascus blade and it was sticky sharp, I remember being impressed with it, but I am really at heart a Spyderco guy more than any other brand.

Did Spyderco ever make a Wootz damascus steel knife?
I was wondering because I am in the market for one and am not really impressed with the thought of what is essentialy a san mai knife where it is just VG10 at the edge.

Re: MagnaMax wish list
I think it's great everyone is chiming in and it helps remind us of all the good designs currently out there (also motivates purchases) yet I cant help but wonder with Spyderco's slow adoption of Magnacut compared to other companies that is, just how realistic is it with CPM gone now for any of ...
