Re: Why are seki city spydercos so different?
Maybe because there is a big initial investment to make an FRN mold. I recall Sal mentioning this as a reason why some models in the Salt line were discontinued, as the existing molds were already too worn out and having new ones made would not be cost-effective. I've read this several times on her...

Re: Bring back this grind on the Native.
I'm not a huge fan of the Native simply because of the lack of a thumb ramp. But I saw this thread a few weeks ago and thought to myself "I'd buy one if they brought this grind back". I really like the way it looks regardless of any lack of tip strength etc. My uncle passed away about a ye...

Re: Fixing Lock Rock in Seki FRN lockbacks
I'll start by saying that lock rock has never really bothered me. On all the Seki models I have (all FRN) it exists to some degree but I never notice it in normal use. I can grab the blade and push the handle down to make it happen. However, I picked up an Uptern recently and found that it has zero ...

Further inspection, looks like they're using a custom cart. Wouldn't be a simple integration so that makes sense.akapennypincher wrote: ↑Fri Feb 10, 2023 6:43 pmWell as I have friend who actually writes, and fixes programs. What seems simple is sometime lot of hours of work.

Re: Request to sal & Spyderco IT Department🙏
Seems like a reasonable and sensible request. I would venture to guess that their current website software lacks the feature. Hopefully, it will be added in a future upgrade. And, oh, BTW, existing staff has only so many cycles per day/week/month. So, adding cycles to keep the likes of us alert to ...

Re: Locks
No, I meant that backlocks can be closed with fingers all the time out of the blade path, exactly like comp lock and CBBL. Just one of quite some ways of operating a backlock, see this short clip I made once (one time done slow, then two times normal speed) https://streamable.com/j7fjd Why does eve...

Re: Native 5 salt is Magnacut?
FYI for anyone waiting for the KnifeCenter Black Friday preorder, my card was just charged for mine which should mean shipping notification is coming very soon if not today. They must have gotten a fair amount in stock. I ordered back in August and I also received my being shipped email today. I th...

Re: Fat guy problem: I keep losing knives when they're clipped to my pocket
1. Carry it in pocket, forget the clip.
2. Try the back pocket. I carried that way for years and didn't have many issues with the knife falling out. That was with an old school FRN clip. With a metal clip I'd worry less.

Re: Native 5 salt is Magnacut?
Saw a SE N5 Salt today (Magnacut) at the SFO. Sadly, they did not have a PE or I would have picked one up. Ok, I'm going to need confirmation by another person here. If it's for sale at the SFO that would mean it's in production right? I've been waiting since August, and I know others have been wai...

Re: Spyderedged Sprint Runs: About Time Isn't It?
Sprints would be cool but my dream option would still be a paid service offered by Spyderco to grind serrations into any model we choose. I'm like you, all SE all the time since the mid 90's. This would be ideal for me. I know I'm picky. I like FRN. I like back locks. I just recently retired a G-2 ...

Full SE Uptern?
Just curious, is there any chance that a full SE Uptern will become available? Combo is nice, but a full SE would interest me more.

Re: Options for a plain, simple, boring, old timer like me.
I think I would be patient and get the Native 5 MagnaCut in full SE. They can't be too far off at this point. I have a feeling MagnaCut is going to turn the SE world upside down. If you've made it all these years without even sharpening, steel choice may not really matter that much and maybe also a...

Re: Options for a plain, simple, boring, old timer like me.
He specifically asked for a “newer” and “higher end steel” though. S30V and K390 are perfectly valid suggestions for what he is asking for. Compared to G-2, VG-10 is a high end steel. BDN1 might even be compared to G-2. But, yeah it seems you are correct. With a black handle, only VG-10 & S30v ...

Re: Options for a plain, simple, boring, old timer like me.
OP: When you say the PE VG-10 Delica didn't hold up, in what way? Was it the saber grind or full flat grind version? Did the blade break, or become dull? If the edge dulled, then that's easily remedied with the Sharpmaker, which is easy to use regardless of sharpening skill level. Jim Got dull, edg...

Re: Options for a plain, simple, boring, old timer like me.
You guys are actually recommending S30V and K390 to a guy who stated "I'm talking from the 90's to 6-8 months ago, never sharpened. Dull, but the teeth always got the job done."? The best course was mentioned earlier, get a Sharpmaker and sharpen the G-2 Delica. Get another 20 years of us...
