Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!

Thought I'd get some to gift to people, having about a 50% success rate there. Hopefully they'll replace or refund. [Edit: They refunded the broken one pretty much immediately.] I like the irony of having the marketing material stating it won't break, right beside a brand new broken knife :zany Upd...

Re: My blade nearly fell out!

How about Spyderco furnishing a free vial of threadlocker with each knife, for starters ? This would at least alleviate some of the supplementary cost for those who would want it on their screws. Then later on and after polling customers regarding their use of the vial, Spyderco could eventually dir...

Re: Native 5 salt is Magnacut?

Great news about the heat treatment, Sal ! :hugging-face It's already one major parameter nailed down. How often do you run into problems with blade and lock steels not working together, and in what ways do they not work? This is probably a detail that many of us have never considered (I certainly h...

Re: The Elephant In The Reveal (besides the BBB Manix): The Lil Temperance LW Price

(...) In some cases, a model will be more expensive than some would like to, or can afford to pay. There isn't much we can do about it, other than 1) Lowering quality, which we'd rather not do. 2) Beat up our long term vendors, which we would also prefer not to do 3) Lowering margins, which we usua...

Sal, thanks for the additional explanations. I think Michal's made interesting points - perhap's it'd be worth asking the Taichung factory if they could produce this knife for cheaper and with a different fit/finish.

Re: The Elephant In The Reveal (besides the BBB Manix): The Lil Temperance LW Price

General increase in cost to Spyderco for materials and Japanese labor, amortizing new FRN molds, tweaks to (if not new) tooling, achieving internal MBC rating…they all add to the price to us. Add to this a misperception that this knife is no big deal and now it’s overpriced. And with the fall of cu...

just wish it was back lock with the stouter pocket clip that comes with those.
Backlock yes, but I'd rather keep the paperclip... clip.

Re: The Elephant In The Reveal (besides the BBB Manix): The Lil Temperance LW Price

The maker making this knife says it's a very difficult knife to make and so he charges us more to make it. If I may ask a candid question : what makes the manufacturing of this knife difficult - relative to others ? I ask because outwardly, it looks like an average Spyderco knife, to which manufact...

I'm curious about that mythical Spydiechef 2 prototype.

If it's ever released, I'd like to see a backlock version.

A slip joint might contain the costs, but to which extent ? The difference might not be worth it relative to a classic backlock.

Re: Poll for Possible Folding Mule - Model Preference

Hi Bobartig,, Welcome to our forum. Thanx for your suggestion, but for a number of reasons, some already expressed, it's not likely to happen. Swapping blades on locking, or even non locking knives becomes a huge liability problem. Someone cuts themselves for any reason and the lawyers come out fro...

Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!

Just received my Rahven, similar to that which Tomaiello's wife broke 😁 It's only seen little use for kitchen duties, but I can already say that it performs well. The lack of cutting edge when checked with the finger, as previously reported, is real and a bit disconcerting. But ultimately, the blade...

That last picture is interesting, the Astute seems to pack a lot of blade relative to that small handle 🤔

I could see myself getting one if it were available in a backlock variant.

Well, for me it would have to be the C90 stainless steel craton Stretch (the first "real" Stretch that was actually called so??)
Interesting handle with mixed materials, I wouldn't be against seeing such handles in current offerings (but with e.g. a carbon + metal mix) :thinking
