Spyderco backlocks : why is the stop pin an exception, instead of being the norm ?

I feel like this specific question deserves to be addressed, instead of being drowned amongst various backlock rock discussions, so I made this thread. Hopefully Sal can chime in and provide more information as to why, the Chaparral for example has been equipped with a stop pin, but not Seki knives ...

Re: Reveal 15: Shivering with Anticipation

Hoping for Chaparral news since they retired half the lineup from the current catalog, IIRC 🤔

Re: Your Ideal Folder for Hiking & Backpacking is....

In 1987 I saw my first Spyderco models in Sharp Stuff a very unique shop that doesn’t even exist anymore. The CoPilot was chosen to accompany me on countless aerial survey missions. Always liked small, capable blades. Then I bumped into the Dragonfly in the incomparable K390. The sizes are similar ...

Re: BYRD as transition towards Spydie knives (or NOT)

I agree with all that's been eloquently stated above ; especially with the notion that Byrds represent a parallel lineup, rather than a "designated entry point" into the mainstream Spyderco collection. IMHO Byrds offer the best bang for the bucks, as you get regular Spyderco ergonomics, go...

I think he meant like looks and design.
Well, in the very next sentence he proceeded to write :
And they look way nicer too.
Which is where he supposedly opined on the design :face monocle
Very confusing.

Re: Straight Forward Comments About Spyderco's From Another Forum

I still think the BMs are artistically and mechanically superior in every way.
Artistically superior ? That doesn't even make sense.

Mechanically superior ? I don't know, I keep reading about omega ring failures. This screams inferiority to me.

Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!

I think the demand will be insane once the word gets out. I hope they make a ton of these. maybe 5,000+ but probably not likely. That's my fear too. Well, it won't be as crazy as the Magnacut Mule, but it's very possible that there'll be more demand than usual. This Ceramic Mule is perhaps 50% more...

Re: Reveal 14 teaser from September's byte

Since Spyderco is the only consumer of SPY-27, I’m guessing they can’t get enough of it to put it as the default steel on knives that sell in such quantities. That said I’d like to see it on more models. SPY27 is at a noticeable disadvantage price-wise against say S30V. — Native5 S30V FRN $128.80 —...

I’d like to see Spyderco classics and Spy27 come together.

Delica Spy27 and Endura Spy27 to start.

Interesting post. Makes me wonder whether SPY27 could eventually displace VG10 as the basic steel in the lineup, as ther seems to be increasing calls to replace the latter.

Ahah, this is good news then :winking-tongue As far as the hole and lockbar placement this is due to your hand size I guess, it's a knife that is mostly made for small hands lol Actually, I prolly have smaller hands than yours :') My reference knife remains the Chaparral, and compared to it, the Na...

Re: Are We Witnessing The Death Knell of K390 In Production Folders?

No this is the Wharncliffe PM2 IMG_0449.jpeg On Cl1ff's picture, the knife looks very different : - Different handle with different screws - Some sort of liner or frame lock, not a compression lock - Sheepsfoot blade, not toucan-style Wharncliffe like on the picture you posted Hence I assume it's a...
