Re: Trying SE for the first time on a Byrd ?

Well, haven't had much time with it for now on but I can already say that it blows through a lot of material easily. It eats wood like popcorn and cardboard, well, a plain edge wouldn't cut this as easily : https://i.imgur.com/ggtXb08.jpg Wowza! I think I know which Byrd I'm getting next :winking-t...

I voted yes! I’m very happy with the few liner lock Spydies I own, and the Sage 1 is no exception.

Hope they make a lightweight version! SE would be nice too, like the old drop point UKPK's in GIN-1.

Re: Dragonfly Blade Swap Advice

Be very observant of how the knife is put together and how it comes apart and put it back together exactly the same way, same screws in the same holes even. Note the direction that the lock spring is facing, they can be installed backwards. It's usually recommended that you keep the back lock bar w...

Re: Your 2021 Spyderco Knife of the Year !

The Wharncliffe Dragonfly has become my dedicated Boston carry knife over the past year. I sometimes find myself carrying it even in areas without a 2.5" blade limit. Hopefully we'll see it in SE someday!

D’allara Rescue for sure. Gotta love that three-dimensional handle. Fits like a glove.

Manix 2 XL LW?

Is this something that would interest you? I've got plenty of love for the current G-10 Manix 2 XL. I don't even mind the amount of real estate it takes up in my pocket, but its weight keeps me from carrying it most of the time (at least for daily carry).

Re: Dragonfly Blade Swap Advice

I've never dabbled in modding knives before, but I would like to do a blade swap on two of my DF2's. Nothing too crazy, just a test to see if I can pull it off successfully before moving onto more complex mods. For tools, I've got a Wiha T6 and T8 and medium strength Loctite. Am I missing anything?...

Re: Dragonfly Blade Swap Advice

Thanks, everyone, for the helpful advice! The project was much easier than I expected and I feel very good about the results. It was a truly eye-opening experience and a new milestone for me to take a look "under the hood" of a Spyderco. I'm excited to make further tweaks and mods in the f...

Re: Talking Choils

Jimping on the choil is a huge improvement, lil native biggest draw back is the lack of jimping. I find I do like the shamans finger choil the most secure, very pronounced which works well with gloves. I tend to carry finger choil Spyderco more than choil less designs. Choil jimping really does mak...

Re: Describe the upsides and downsides of your favorite knife in a single statement.

Stretch 2: I prefer its deeper choil over that of the original Stretch, but it lacks the distinct "locked-in" feeling of the original's handle.

On which knife did you learn how to sharpen?

I recently bought a Sharpmaker and a Byrd Harrier 2 with the intention of finally learning how to sharpen my knives. I’ve been told 8Cr13MoV is relatively easy to sharpen, so hopefully that holds true!

I’m curious to know: on which knife, Spyderco or otherwise, did you learn how to sharpen?

Re: Lil' Temperance 3 Clip Question

The lightweight native 5 has a unique clip pattern. Thanks for clearing that up. I took a closer look at the Native 5 LW clip, and it does appear to differ slightly. The clip on the Byrd Raven 2 looks like it might work with the LT3. Maybe I’m just better off removing the LT3 clip and stripping it?...
