My brand new Lil Native is awesome in that S90V and CF. It was also fairly gritty on the open and close. I too cleaned the knife and put KPL. After using it and playing with it for a few months, it has smoothed out quite nicely.

...upon further examination, the roughness only occurs as the blade rubs the detent ball on its way open and at the end of its closing. Once the blade is clear of the detent ball, it's smooth. If I hold the compression lock in, the movement is super smooth.

You said you opened it and cleaned it, by chance did you take any pictures when it was open? It would help other to see it so they can offer suggestions. I don't have a Lil Native so I cannot help you myself.

I recently picked up a Lil Native, and it’s great, but opening and closing it feels very rough near where the detent ball drops into place. In other words, it feels rough/gritty when you first start to open it, then it smoothes out for a bit, and then it gets rough again until the blade locks open ...

Agreed 100%, the MXG Manix2 clip (#102381) is one of my fave for several models like the McBee, Burch Chubby & Astute among others...

I did, but I used an extra two-hole clip like the one Spydiegirl is using because it more closely matched the finish of the Mcbee and was more subtle than the one you modified (in my opinion only).
