Re: Affording the Necessary Stones for Super Steels

https://www.bestsharpeningstones.com/product_details.php?category_name=Diamond%20Sharpening%20Stones&product_id=140 I went with the Ultra Sharp diamond plates. 300,600, 1200 and the holder for $128.95 There are other combinations available as well as double sided plates. I'm thinking of getting ...

Re: I really want to pick up a serrated K390 model when they drop: Endura or Endela?

I went with the Endela PE K390 simply because an Endura just doesn't feel right in my hand yet a Military does? The Endela is a well balanced comfortable knife but so long as we have so many choices and dwell upon these choices so much, we will probably want more and more and have a hard time being ...

Re: Are We Spyder-Heads In the Blade Steel Minority?

Again my basic question in this thread is "Why Don't More Knife Companies Try To Go All Out For Better Blade Steels On Their Knives?>> or just better overall materials for all features of their products? I don't think I've ever encountered a company that goes all out for their customer base li...

Re: Freediver’s 1000th Post Giveaway

“I’m in” My favorite Spyderco? My PM2 although I really like the Endela K390 I replaced the lost PM2 with. It is much slimmer and lighter, a pleasure to open and close but doesn't have the flickability of the compression lock. Funny thing is I really considered a Pacific Salt 2 when I was deciding o...

Re: MAXAMET as a BD present. Which to pick up, P3 or PM2?

Thanks for explaining that Wartstein. As much as I enjoyed my PM2 there were times when it was hard to get your hands in some pockets due to the knife's thickness, bulk and grippyness of the g10 of the PM2. The PM3 would be the same only shorter. With larger pockets this is not so much of an issue. ...

Re: MAXAMET as a BD present. Which to pick up, P3 or PM2?

What kind of pants does he wear? With many jeans, the pockets are sometimes tight and both knives may prove an annoyance to him as they make it difficult to get your hand in and out. When I lost my PM2 I replaced it with a much thinner K390 Endela. But still, I miss that knife. I haven't handled a P...

Re: Full SE versus combo edge?!

I've had only one combo edge and that was on a Gerber Gater I bought for hunting long ago. The rear serrated edge proved excellent for cutting - almost sawing - open the brisket. I've been eyeing a Pacific Salt se but doubt I will ever buy a combo edge again.

Re: Removing or modifying bi-directional texturing?

The only part of the frn scales that bother me a little are the lower edges where the blade closes into. They are a little sharp there and could certainly use a little rounding. I may do that one day.

Re: What did you use your Spyderco for last?

Used my new K390 Endela to open and then cut the sides on the packing carton of my new Toro Super Recycler lawn mower. It's one of those space saver models that will fold up and stand up in your garage, so it rolled right out of the open box. I seem to remember a warning on the top of the box about ...

Re: What did you use your Spyderco for last?

Just received my K390 Endela today and with nothing special to cut, played with some paper. But tonight, my wife asked me to cut some of her prescription pills for her. Usually I use one of two older thin kitchen utility knives that I keep sharp for that and a few other chores. One is a Gerber Mimin...

Re: Trying to understand the attributes of negative blade rake.

Interesting thread. Before reading it, I never even heard of the term ‘negative blade angle’. So am I to understand that examples of knives WITHOUT negative blade angles would be standard SAKs and the Emerson A-100? Jim Yes, they would be neutral angle. I had to search the Emerson A-100 to see. Whe...

Re: Trying to understand the attributes of negative blade rake.

Thanks everyone for sharing. I've enjoyed learning more about the larger knives offered by Spyderco. I'm still a bit amazed at how my 100 pound daughter loves her Endura and how odd it felt in my hands. She though, didn't grow up with mostly straight knives or knives that had mildly negative angles....

Re: Trying to understand the attributes of negative blade rake.

Has the angle changed much on the Police over the years? From photos, it seems they had less negative angle way before the handle change and re-design.

Re: Trying to understand the attributes of negative blade rake.

A slight to moderate negative blade angle is useful unless cutting against a surface. I'm somewhat confused a bit by your issues, as I've always considered the pm2 to have a slightly negative blade angle. You could try a kapara for a more neutral angle if that's what you're looking for. Spydiechef ...

Trying to understand the attributes of negative blade rake.

I've linked this excellent review from 2015 which came up during a search where I was trying to understand why so many of the long Spyderco knives have such a negative rake to the blade. https://forum.spyderco.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=70023&p=1071446&hilit=Knife+Review%3A+The+Spyderco+Sch...

Re: Which Itty Bitty?

I've got a itty bitty all metal Spyderco something I picked up one day with a slip joint which I probably left in a watch pocket in a pair of pants somewhere, or maybe on the closet floor somewhere if it fell out. I haven't seen in years now. I kind of doubt I'll buy one of those on the list. I've b...

Re: Compression lock Manix

That is one reason I returned a Manix2 lw. The spring was way too stiff and the button was plastic and not all that comfortable. Also, it was just too large for my hand to feel relaxed and comfortable in any but that "locked in" grip that so many mention. But, just like available lock choi...

Re: Stones needed for K390

I finally ordered a new Endela in K390 last night along with some diamond paste in 1 and 1/2 microns from GPKnives. I have the 300,600 and 1200 diamond plates and the med and xf Spyderco ceramics. I probably need to buy the fine to fill the gap for if and when I tackle the edge on this new knife. My...

Re: Stones needed for K390

Hi David, Hopefully all of the models we make in plain edge. sal Many years ago I bought my wife a set of Kershaw kitchen knives with the soft handles. My daughter still favors the 5" utility knife that is "serrated" . I though, would rarely use it knowing it was a bit tougher to sha...
