Ok , if the optimum hrc is pinpointed, will it actually be made to those specific places?
IMO, it seems that those numbers are always reduced by a # or 3 , every thing always seems like it’s run soft? On average is production steels run softer than optimum??

Re: Alternative pocket knife for high corrosion and high edge retention
Hello. I am planning to buy the Salt 2 LC200N but unfortunately I am disappointed with the thin blade. My uses with this knife are different and have nothing to do with cutting cardboard, but I am looking for a blade at least twice as wide. I come from CTS-XHP Chaparral, and being dissapointed due ...

Re: CTS-XHP corrosion
I appreciate reading everything I can about XHP. Thanks for posting OP! It’s one of my personal favorite steels, but I refrain from gifting XHP knives given it’s rumored “lowish stainlesness.” I appreciate the link to the Techno thread too! I’ve never had staining on my XHP knives, but I’m fairly m...

Re: Alternative pocket knife for high corrosion and high edge retention
Scottish is a slightly finer chop, but very similar to steel cut. I like Irish Oatmeal, oatmeal honey and a splash of whiskey. Great flavor. “” Stone-ground (Scottish) oats: These are the same as Irish oats but they are ground into smaller pieces, closer to the size of a poppy seed. Both Irish and ...

Re: Strongest handle
I carried my Pac Salt every day last winter, and we experienced some deep freeze temperatures for sure. No issues to speak of. And since I have your attention I have to ask….do you think the Stretch 2 XL SE has the potential to become your all time favourite folder or what?! I thought of you when I...

Re: Alternative pocket knife for high corrosion and high edge retention
This morning I had Scottish oatmeal for breakfast. How about you? I don’t eat breakfast. I found dropping the morning meal made it much easier to manage my weight. Intermittent fasting type thing. What is Scottish oatmeal? I used to like the steel cut oat meal. Scottish is a slightly finer chop, bu...

Re: CTS-XHP corrosion
Hello, After taking my Chaparral out of my pocket I realized that it had gray stains (not like rust), there is some humidity where I live and I had to clean it since it had small drops of humidity, I have only been using it for 1 week and this is happening! I thought CTS-XHP was corrosion resistant...

It has a pinch less vanadium than it’s brothers, so IMO is a pinch easier to sharpen and field strop back to very keen.metaphoricalsimile wrote: ↑Sat Jan 15, 2022 11:37 pmDoes it actually offer any performance benefits over S35vn that, on paper at least, looks like it has nearly identical performance for lower price?

Re: Any New SPY27 Models?
In what area does spy27 excel? The edge it takes? I wouldn't necessarily says it excels (best in class) for any category. Where Maxamet excels in edge retention and H-1 excels in corrosion resistance there are trade offs. SPY27 is a great middle group steel that does a lot well, but not best in cla...

Re: Silent opening and closing with UKPK
A vg10 delica 4 serrated or salt 3 will give you far better peace of mind, you seem 1. Very fragile or inexperienced or both Vg10, LC200n serrated and a sharpmaker will soothe your brain and ease your pain Long term edge, easy to navigate through sharpening, can be carried in a pocket, dropped off l...

I have many brands of fixed blades and all the sheaths have eventually failed, due to wet or sun exposure, I personally would check out Kydex it’s lite and indestructible

Re: Astute Poll
I wouldn’t complain with any of that. I think the Astute is a really good design, but like has already been said, models just don’t switch between makers so there’s no point in voting for the Taichung version. The lightweights, steel upgrades, and XL version I’m all for. This is where an XL version...

Even BD1 IMO is miles better than 8cr13mov, but would probably knock it off the value line in bd1n & S35v, I would have bought one in bd1n, as I don’t think I like my gifted S35v tenacious At least I don’t grab it as much as I a do my BD1 Raven2 or vg10 endura 4 Even with the raven2 having a fun...

Re: Where does the steel come from?
Sad..... I could care less where it comes from, as long as it's tempered correctly. I think part of the Chinese take on steel isn't so much about it's source as that it's tempered incorrectly and just won't retain an edge. I don't ever see that happening with Spyderco. It could come from anywhere a...

Re: Stretch 2 clone
Looks like a clone. Ganzo did some in the past (present too maybe?) and I found the Ganzo G733-GR that looks an awful lot like this. Here's a link to a dealer that has pictures of it : https://fr.gearbest.com/pocket-knives-and-folding-knives/pp_281284.html Doesn't seem to be sold as a genuine Spyde...
