I'd think "Mule Team 2" is enough, though?
To me that would imply some kind of evolution of the design towards performance or ergonomics improvement. Essentially the straight spine was only intended to make it look different from the original mule shape.

Re: POLL: Shape of "Standard Mule" MT28P2

Voted the way people would expect. That said I can understand why people would vote the other way. After all a new knife shape is a new knife, which means more variety. I'm mostly just enamored with the original shape and was hopeful of the idea that it could be a "mainstay" of Spyderco's ...

Re: MT28P2 - CPM SPY27 Mule Team Release!

While you may think there were other ways that I could have made it different, that in your mind would have been "better" than the way that I chose, is your opinion. That's not exactly how I feel about it. I've been following and participating in the mule team since its inception. If you ...

Re: MT28P2 - CPM SPY27 Mule Team Release!

Well, we can agree that MT28P2 exists. And, it enables the ELU to access the Mule Team without the stress of timing a drop. Sure, but at the same time there are probably people who looked at the original mule shape, thought "I'd like to be able to get one without having to schedule a day off&q...

Re: MT28P2 - CPM SPY27 Mule Team Release!

It’s basically doing what most of us asked for I'd agree with this if I saw people asking for a straight spine, or for one in SPY27 regardless of the shape that also required a different sheath. In my mind, it makes complete sense to use the house steel(Spy27) in a regular production Mule. I don't ...

Re: MT28P2 - CPM SPY27 Mule Team Release!

*snip* Pretty much everything you mentioned was addressed in my post responding to Bolster just before yours, so it'd be kind of silly to repost it all. Regards making a straight spine mule out of the standard model, that would be beyond my ability with my (non water cooled) belt grinder; as cool a...

Re: MT28P2 - CPM SPY27 Mule Team Release!

I suspect the main reason people will buy the straight spine mule is that they want to make their own knife Which makes me curious if they'd prefer the straight spine version to the original pattern or vice versa. I have loads of mules (even the standard run SPY27 mule) and I still bought a S.S. mu...

Re: MT28P2 - CPM SPY27 Mule Team Release!

I see this as a public service to the hobby knife making community from Spyderco. I'd argue if that was the case then keeping the original shape would make more sense, since if people preferred the straight spine they could grind/shave it down. As it stands the production mule forces you to accept ...

Re: MT28P2 - CPM SPY27 Mule Team Release!

I have a number of mules for testing and have put some nice handles on them and always get people wanting one. But these are not for sale as I make them for myself. (And due to the fact they are not readily available to re-purchase) Now I have the chance to buy a few at a time and make knives for o...

Re: MT28P2 - CPM SPY27 Mule Team Release!

I have never suggested that the spine difference invalidates the SPY27 as a cutting point of reference against other Mules. Didn't say you did. That was to point out the dichotomy of saying this mule isn't a testing mule and multiple people, including yourself, saying that's what they're going to d...

Re: MT28P2 - CPM SPY27 Mule Team Release!

I would seriously doubt that it has any measurable effect on most measures of cutting performance Agreed, but how are we to know for certain unless a comparison was made between the two? As it stands it's a variable that was needlessly introduced. So while the uniform blade profile is key to the Mu...

Re: MT28P2 - CPM SPY27 Mule Team Release!

Do I want a SPY27 Mule, even if it's not the coolest version? Yes. Getting the OG SPY27 Mule is hard at this point. The Mule Team is supposed to be a standard configuration that allows people to compare steels with a minimum of variables. Changing the shape of the blade goes against that philosophy...

Re: Locks

I find it hard enough to operate a CBBL two fingered, let alone one. Maybe I got an abnormally strong spring on mine. Most of my issue is that the cage shape doesn't have an edge to push into. You're always pushing onto a ramp so it's hard to get enough grip. This has been my issue with CBBLs as we...

Re: MT28P2 - CPM SPY27 Mule Team Release!

Hopefully this will reduce the demand on the unique mules and the program can return to something closer to Sal’s original intent. I'm not too sure about that, varying demand notwithstanding. I very well could be the minority here but the straight spine blade isn't appealing to me and I don't like ...

Re: Let's see your very first Spyderco (or at least the one you've had the longest)

S90V/CF Military I got back in 2007 or so. I had gotten into knives when S30V was all the rage and then I saw this knife with S90V and was instantly intrigued. I used to EDC it regularly but even though I don't carry it on me it's still in my pack that I usually take with me everywhere. https://i.im...

Then why even compare two knives if that's the deal breaker? Sounds like the difference is acceptable when compared to the perceived benefit of the "better" steel

Re: Would you rather?

If the focus is specific performance then I'm leaning towards steel. You can reshape the blade but you can't magically change the steel.

Re: C-60 Ayoob Campaign: No I Won't Shut Up

Has anyone ordered and received an order from Going Gear yet? I ordered on the 12th and mines still in the “confirmed” status. I ordered from them but haven't received mine yet. I sent them an email yesterday and got a response, supposedly it got sent out and I just never received a shipment notice...

Oh no! So there's like possibly 6 people that got stiffed... Sorry everybody! I'll try and keep that in mind for future releases. :disappointed lol it's not like you could have known, and I bet more people are glad someone like you is spreading availability info for the rest of us, I know I sure am.
