Re: Still The Best Pocketknife Ever
Here are some comparison photos with my two. I took the clips off so they can line up better. The thickness is close. The DF saves a millimeter, but trades a little weight savings for the strength of steel liners.

Re: Still The Best Pocketknife Ever
The super light Dragonfly with such high performance is the darling of the ultralight backpacking community when one demands a real knife. Some take a razor blade that definitely isn’t a knife. Many take the rather wimpy SAK Classic, a knife or more so a tiny multi tool that Colin Fletcher adopted ...

Re: Still The Best Pocketknife Ever
Pound for pound the Dragonfly is impossible to beat. It is a small knife that acts much bigger and can accomplish almost anything. It’s my favorite ultralight hiking knife. However the thinner blade Chaparral is what I have in my pocket right now for EDC other than the wilderness canyons and deserts ...

Re: Chaparral LW Salt SE
The grip area on thr Chaparral is pretty close to the 91 mm SAK which is an iconic pocket knife for travelers and backpackers. The Chaparral is more ergonomic and rides much better in the pocket. The cutting edge for these two are almost identical as is the width of the spine but the Chaparral has ...

Re: Where are the Chaparral steels?
SPY27 can achieve a very fine, sharp edge and it achieves a nice hardness so that edge lasts. I agree that we definitely don’t want to go back to the soft, chippy, hard to remove the wire edge and sharpen easily S30v, never really liked it and when Reeves switched from BG42 many were inconsolable ...

Re: Where are the Chaparral steels?
I agree that if a MagnaCut Chaparral is released I’ll buy it day one.
However CTS-XHP is highly underrated. From a study I recently read it has better edge retention than MagnaCut though it slightly looses in every other category so MagnaCut wins by a split decision.

The Native 5 is pretty far from being slicey ;).
No doubt about it, it’s slicey. However I never use a factory edge and i actually use the knife so I this is easy to ascertain. Probably sharpen different than most giving mine a very acute ...

Re: Thinnest Spyderco model
Then Chaparral is thinner than the Dragonfly and I have both and am a huge Dragonfly fan. However I’ve found that even the much thicker Native 5 is very slicey. It’s the blade geometry and how they grind the edge thin. That’s why I am a Spyderco fan or one of the main reasons at least. But the ...

Re: Dragonfly vs. Lil' Native
I own several DFs and a LN with compression lock. The LN seems to be a sturdier knife, but I find that the compression lock system is an ergonomic aberration that doesn't make it very secure to close. I think the main reason for carrying a sub-compact knife is weight. In this respect, the DF is ...

Re: What was your first Spyderco
About 37 years ago I found my first Spyderco, the stainless CoPilot I carried and used for years while doing aerial mapping photography all over the west including 119 missions in Mexico. It is pictured here next to my current carry, the K390 Dragonfly I’ve been carrying exclusively for more than a ...

Re: Dragonfly vs. Lil' Native
That’s a slick lightweight kit for moving through the urban landscape, a device for communication, navigation, reference and photography with some currency and a very capable blade that will draw no attention. I like it. Every place I go takes Apple Pay so I haven’t had to carry actual cash for ...

Bolster that’s a good little initial review. It is kind of shocking how such a small folder can perform so well. The K390 is off the charts amazing.

Re: Dragonfly vs. Lil' Native
Are those kits for FRN and Salt models?
yes. Flytanium makes one and there's one for sale on ebay. I have both. They both work. The ebay one was designed to be used without washers, but includes them and they do work. The Flytanium one is more expensive and has more parts. They both work ...

Re: Dragonfly vs. Lil' Native
Another thing I do with my knife when hiking is casual foraging for informative purposes. I like to know and understand the 400 square miles of southwestern wilderness that I can walk to from home as good as I can after hiking the two mountain ranges, peaks and canyons that start in the saguaros and ...

Re: Fixing Lock Rock in Seki FRN lockbacks
I have two copies of the Dragonfly in K390. One has a little rock to it and the trademark side of the blade isn’t finished as good as the signature side. My second copy doesn’t have any but an almost imperceptible rock, almost not there and both sides of the blade are equally finished. They are both ...

Re: Dragonfly vs. Lil' Native
I can see that the Dfly must be an amazing ultralight option.. but honestly, your wording "those who value ultralight weight and want a real knife" rather brings the Salt 2 ffg to my mind.
Just me of course , but the Dfly would be just too small to be a "real knife" for what I use a blade for ...
