Re: Spyderco Ulu?
Has Spyderco ever made an Ulu? I do not remember that they have. The Ulu is the knife commonly used in the far north for everything from making at igloo, cutting hair, skinning an animal, or cutting roots and vegetables. It is a very versatile knife and has been copied by many manufactures over the...

Re: Hard Use Knife
I’ll try it again, used Spydercos have lots of life left, have a proper opening hole, and fall within the OPs budget. Check out the spyderco swap and maybe post a “want” post. That's where I Found the gentleman with this one. I have been all over Reddit, weighing my options, while I decide if this ...

Re: Hard Use Knife
Maybe not even CS. It is hard use. The proper answer would be to just go straight to a full tang fixed blade with 14C28N or 3V steel. With a convex grind. No? Generally yes, but the OP need it to be a folder for legal reasons, and he want that folder to be a lock back because of personal preference...

Re: Hard Use Knife
Im holding my new Chap right now and nothing about it screams hard use. It's a little bigger than the Dragonfly with very thin blade stock - a great little slicer. But for 60 bucks I'd totally get it as long as it's not a scam. For a light weight hard use knife id recommend a delica, endela or endu...

Re: Hard Use Knife
Hard use means different things for different people. For me it means not holding back in fear of damaging the knife, i.e. borderline not being a (pocket) knife task, or even beyond that border. I've been able to circumvent that problem myself by adding a small pry bar to my EDC, but if I wanted to...

Re: Outdoor Spyderco - what would pick?
I debated on a Salt as well, for a second carry knife. Right now I am debating if I should get a Chaparral.
Looks like we might be looking for something similar right now.

Re: Hard Use Knife
TBF, I believe that OP went back and edited in the lock back and budget constriction. You could easily pick up a used Delica or maybe even an Endura in your price range. I think this would be the move. Check out r/knifeswap on reddit. I did edit my original post. I realized I didnt give enough info...

Re: Hard Use Knife
Since you're looking at used knives, I'd try to find a Native 5 LW over a Chap or a Buck 110 for your stated uses. Otherwise, for a hard use back lock for $60 I'd get a new Cold Steel SR1 Lite. I have a Buck 110, sitting here on my desk next to me, and that might be the way to go. I was hoping for ...

Re: Hard Use Knife
If you can really get a Chap for $60: Go for it as a backup knife (that's what you said you want) I use mine "hard" pretty often, it is really of indestructable built, has an amazingly strong backlock and a blade that is both strong AND slicey. Light batoning, whittling hard wood, all kin...

Re: Hard Use Knife
OK everybody go back and read his criteria of lock back and price under $60 and then revise your suggestions. For Spyderco this would limit him to the Byrd and Tenacious families, but I think the Tenacious would be a reasonable suggestion. Yes you’re right, cara cara, full serrated tenacious, or a ...

Re: Hard Use Knife
Also, fixed blades are not in consideration, since in Michigan, I cannot put one in my pocket. Has to be 100% visible at all times, like a firearm.

Hard Use Knife
I'm looking for a backup knife, that can be hard use as well. Think prepping firewood making scrolls, things that I wouldnt want to use my Mantra 3 for. I wouldnt be batoning wood with it, but other hard use, non-striking tasks are on the table. I was debating on a Buck 112 Slim, but have the chance...

Re: Colors - Talkin' Story - Marketing
I love the Green on the Salt knives. Green is my fav color, and it would be easy to spot if I dropped it.
Personally, I'm moving away from Black everything, for my EDC, where I can, just for that reason. If I drop it, I want to be able to find it again.
