Re: 15V Shaman!

Calm down. G&R listed the shaman yesterday as one of the first. For comparison, they listed their PM2 on feb 20th. A month ago. And pm2s are still dropping. It's extremely early. These are going to be dropping for at least the next month. If you don't feel good about a particular dealer or payin...

Re: 15V Shaman!

Checked out at g&r tactical and got an order confirmation email. ****, didn't expect to get lucky that early. I was using the pushover app with the provided email, I put it in as my forum email and enabled the alert thread notifications. Worked like a charm. Notifications come significantly fast...

Re: Interest in Shaman Maxamet sprint run.

I'll take a shaman in any steel that it hasn't already been done in. Maxamet would be cool. But personally my top interests would be magnacut, k390/10v, lc200n, 3v, in that order

Re: QCI questions...

The best way (and only way?) to tell them apart is to understand the changes that were made and look for them on your knife. CQI changes are rarely announced and are not marked in any way. Sometimes they're very hard to spot, depending on the change, other times it's simple, like new DLC coated line...

Re: Magnacut or Bust Wishlist

I want a salt shaman in magnacut. The shaman is my grail work knife and I really like picking and choosing steels for what I'm doing each day, weather, and just to play with steels and experience their "flavor". US made is a big deal for me. It would replace my current rust proof choice, t...

Re: Pick One Spyderco for last knife.

I'm thinking he ment versatile. Perfect world I could get down to three - non stainless work knife: 66-67hrc 10v or k390 shaman, stain proof work knife - magnacut shaman, and a slimmer, premium, dressier, out of work carry - maybe the possible upcoming Spyderco - SPK Lamia collab? Now if you're goin...

You know I'm in for one of these. I watched the manix come and go by with a lot of anxiety but held my ground hoping for this.

SPK Lamia colab

Spyderco and SPK - a dream matchup? Alex has expressed interest in trying to get his knives out to more hands, and this would be an awesome way to do it. He mentioned today that he'd be interested in making this happen! Who does a maker typically reach out to in order to start discussion? And how ma...

Re: Sal, what are the chances for a AEB-L spydie ?

I think heat treat is important on this one - I had some that supposedly had a small batch custom ht with cryo at 62 HRC from someone who had many positive reviews and found it to be chippy, which is not at all what I expect from something with it's toughness numbers from Larrin. Was pretty dissapoi...

Shaman. Little thinner blade stock and TBE. Magnacut and K390 steels. If I get to go crazy, fluted ti scales, lanyard tube delete with the clip moved a little toward the butt.

Re: Corrosion Reports

During regular carry of my M4 shaman I experienced a significant amount of surface rust forming each day, despite applying my usual eezox which normally protects quite well for a week or more. https://i.postimg.cc/FHzYNRJz/20220906-114920.jpg It was mentioned earlier in this thread that changing the...

Re: micro-beveling - when to reprofile?

Each time you micro it will take longer to bring the edge back to the same level of sharpness since the micro is growing and more material will need to be removed to do so. When it takes too long (which is subjective) it's time to reprofile. For me, that works out to be about what others are saying:...

Re: 20CV hardness and the differences between it and M390 / 204P

The difference between the three steels composition is minimal. The difference is in how the manufacturer heat treats. The best Spyderco HRC resource (though quite incomplete) I am aware of is here: https://forum.spyderco.com/viewtopic.php?t=83847 Note that the heat treat varies from batch to batch ...

Re: Crucarta Shaman-Regular Production When?

The factory is having a difficult time keeping up right now - we know a lot of projects have been put on the backburner. I'd try to give these hard working folks some slack about asking for new stuff until they get that expansion opened up and running smooth - next year? Production crucarta shaman w...

Re: What do you guys buy and use to see blade edges close up?

I got a USB microscope from Amazon for $35ish and it works great. Field of view is about the width of the bevel on most spydercos zoomed out, or zoomed in about half of that. I think it really helped my sharpening and my understanding of what I was doing with various abrasives and motions when sharp...

Re: Tough Enough?

The balance between geometry, hardness, and toughness is what determines how an edge holds up. [...] Just looking at toughness won't tell you exactly how an edge will behave. Exactly this. I was quite surprised to find that rex45, despite it's shockingly low toughness, when I freehand sharpen it an...
