Re: Tri-Angle™ Stones Cubic Boron Nitride or Tri-Angle™ Stones Diamond?

CBN or Diamond is not more aggressive than the brown stone included. They are made to cut harder steels like 15V or Manix that the normal brown and white rods can’t effectively sharpen. ... Not an expert, but I am not sure I understand - ? Perhaps the term "aggressive" can be interpreted ...

Re: Could we see a Rex-121 mule?

Just got some great new scales so of course I need a new mule to put it on. This could be awesome, maybe not the best steel for a fixed blade but an awesome steel.

I am also curious about the rumored MagnaTough steel.

Generally the Sharpmaker is great at maintaining an already sharp knife. If you are looking to reprofile or fix a ...

Hey Shawn,

What is the blade length on that piece?

sal
Agree think it’s 12” from an earlier photo but not sure if that’s total length or blade length. But I would guess 12” is blade length just from the pictures.

Re: A new spin on "HIC dropping soon"

On the good side you now don’t need to worry about hurting a $150 knife, already beat up. I say use the **** out of what’s left of it, push it hard and see where the limitations are. If you don’t I am sure someone else would want to without the fear of messing it up.

That would just be something awesome to see, a 6+ inch fixed H-2 SE fixed blade. Talk about a hard use knife.

Re: Tax day MAP sale!

Just got my Pacific Salt 2 SE from BHQ. Very happy I jumped on it, that is a ton of awesome knife for $40. The deepest discount of the sale I think at 69% off MSRP. Did it end up being H1 or H2 steel? It was H2 with silver non coated hardware. They had a black coated back lock shown in the picture....

Re: Flattening Whestones

I will use double sided tape to stick sand paper to a glass plate with good results. I also use the below diamond flattening stone. It’s cheap and “junk” but it actually works surprisingly well. I have used it on my King stones from 300 to 6000 with good results on my hand planes. https://www.amazon...

Re: manix lw magnacut internal differences?

Have a Manix LW MagnaCut and I find it just as snappy as my son’s Manix LW SPY27. You might just need to losen the pivot slightly.

The Manix LW has surprisingly become one of my favorite platforms.

Re: Building a Custom Knife for Sal: CPM S60V

Shawn, How do you balance the need for rapid cooling but avoid warping, especially on such a big blade? I would have guessed it would cool unevenly and worry on you. Not sure if this is what you're asking, but he prevents warping by clamping the blade in between two big aluminum blocks. Helps it co...

Re: Changes to OpFocus Program

Sad to see the change, but still super grateful for the discount. Guess I need to buy a knife before May! A K390 Enuff 2 has been on my radar lately… 🤔 A Shaman has always been on my list, but I just bought my third Spyderco this year yesterday. Need to hold off so my better half does not kill me.

Re: Building a Custom Knife for Sal: CPM S60V

Next time my wife asks me why my knives can cost so much I will send her to this topic. In all seriousness, Shawn, how did you get into knife making? I am into wood working, for $1,000 bucks can get you started and produce nice stuff. With knife making it seems like you need to jump both feet in wit...

Re: Tax day MAP sale!

BHQ has the Pac Salt 2 yellow (H1 or H2?) serrated for $49.99... I'm all set on Pac Salts but still tempting Thanks, jumped on it. First PAC Salt and a big SE that I have been missing in my collection. Don’t use SE much but every once in a while it would nice to have one. Had a $10 in BHQ points, t...

Re: Oregon Knife Collectors Association Show April 12-14!

Any pics? Not my photos, found them on Facebook. But that is crazy, $158 for a 15V Manix, signed box… Not sure if all shows are like this but man I would love to go to one. This one was the wrong side of the country. The Atlanta one is a bit better but an 11 hour drive each way, just not going to h...

Re: New PM2 question

A little oil can’t hurt but if you have the tools I would loosen the pivot screw maybe 1/8th of a turn on both sides. Repeat until the action is smooth.

Just don’t loosen them so much there is noticeable side to side blade play.

Re: Building a Custom Knife for Sal: CPM S60V

Shawn, Thanks for sharing, always good to see how your knives are made. What are you going to use for a handle? I have a lot more luck working with wood and have a ton of fun making handles for my mules. I have some Gabon Ebony I want to try next but running out of excuses to buy more mules. Can’t w...
