Re: Is this the knife everyone clamors for?

I think the backlock Manix could be my one-and-done knife. I prefer the slightly thicker handle for comfort, but wouldn't object to a bit more chamfering. The texture on the G-10 is perfect for me; it gives enough traction, has a pleasant feel, and is smooth going in and out of pocket. The fully clo...

Re: Chaparral

I'd really love to see a simple, single color G10 version (maybe the "smooth" variant like certain Native models) of the Chaparral join the FRN version as a utility-oriented version of the knife. Despite owning 40+ Spyderco's over the years, and owning the complete collection of Chaparral...

Re: Upping the price.

Thank you Sal for engaging on this topic and being patient and transparent. It's been an interesting discussion from everyone. I've tried knives from other makers, and while I still have a few in the collection, by and large the knives I carry and use are from Spyderco. There's a quote attributed to...

Re: Upping the price.

Thank you Sal, for sharing your thoughts in this thread. One of my first Spydercos was a PM2 ($125 in late 2017). Going just by inflation, that would be about $160 today, but I'm sure other factors go into the final price, even excluding the MAP changes. My knife collection (more than I need, to be ...

Thanks so much for sharing your review, zuludelta. A well-written and thoughtful knife review is always a pleasure! I enjoyed your Yojimbo review as well.

Re: A Different Bi-Directional FRN

I had a Chaparral FRN and Sage 5 LW, but moved them along because they snagged a bit going in out of pocket (blue jeans). I know there's a smooth spot for the clip, but I think it was the edges of the handle that were catching. By contrast, my Delicas and Manix LW are fine. (I was able to get one of...

Re: Delica 4 in 2024?

I keep coming back to the Delica. I have other knives in that size class (Watu and Sage among them), but there is something about the Delica that makes it special. I do wish for silver clips instead of the black painted clips.

Re: What knife do you actually carry and use the most?

In terms of carry, the knife I most commonly have with me is a Victorinox Rambler. In terms of cutting use, I would say the Manix since I mainly use the non-knife tools on the Rambler.

I didn't pick anything up either. The only thing on my 'maybe' list is the Crucarta Manix.

Subject to change :)

Re: What knife makes you smile whenever you carry it?

All my Spydies make me happy in different ways, but the ones that made me smile most recently are: - Mid-backlock Manix. I think it's a combination of handle shape and the fine G10 texture, but this one is like shaking hands with an old friend. Every time it comes up in rotation it makes me smile. -...

I stared out as a Manix guy, but eventually ended up with team PM2. For me, the Manix2 is a knife that feels great to hold, but not as good when using it as the PM2.
Could you say more about that? Is it a particular grip (or grips) that work better with the PM2?

Re: FOMO or No?

I have mild FOMO. The current instance is for the Sun and Moon Chaparral (I have the FRN one), and I'm still on the fence... The last couple of Spydercos that really called to me were the mid-backlock Manix from 2018 (?), and the Delica in the desert camo Zome FRN, which is still a favorite. These d...

Sharpening stone(s) for a relative newbie?

I'm looking to build my freehand sharpening skills. I have a Sharpmaker and a KME system, so have sharpened my knives with "assistance." To start with freehand, I've sharpened a couple of knives on the Worksharp Guided Field Sharpener. I've had good results, but find the stones a little na...

What knives do you miss?

I didn't find a recent thread on this, and thought it would be interesting to talk about knives you either regret missing out on, or that you regret selling. One for me is the Yojimbo 2. I had one for a while, and moved it along during downsizing. I do miss it, though, and lost a chance to get one d...

Re: Knife trends you just don't understand?

Sharpening choils don't make sense to me either. I'd rather have an unsharpened (or less sharp) area if needed, rather than a notch to snag material. I don't understand the appeal of the frame lock. With a relief cut on the outside, it's a place to snag when pocketing the knife. It requires extra at...

Re: Serrations for cutting hard plastic?

OP here again... I ended up getting a Dragonfly Salt serrated edge, and can confirm it works well! The blade tip is great for piercing, and the serrations work well for the cut. I did find some issues with blade steering, but was able to manage it. For this application, plain edge may well be prefer...

Re: Serrations for cutting hard plastic?

OP here; thanks for the feedback, everyone. To add a little more detail, the plastic I'm cutting is about 1/8" thick, and more rigid than, say, a typical shampoo bottle. I usually pierce the bottle, and then cut around the circumference. I was thinking that a serrated knife might trap the mater...
