No, automatic knives are not illegal per se. Böker and many other dealers do sell automatic knives in Germany. Just models with blades shorter than 8,5cm. How could I have been so ignorant? Apparently I have successfully blended out for years that there is a length limit to blades of automatic knives in Germany, in order for them to be legal. :( It's 8,5cm. I'm a lefty as well, and you are right, the scissors are great even for us. But the best thing about the scissors, in my opinion, are the thin blades. They are really useful for precise cuts.
