Re: Crazy Good Deals Part 2!!

As soon as the logged in deals disappeared at National Knives I assumed something like this happened. My longtime Spyderco fandom takes another blow.

That change coincided with the posting of this thread:

Re: NFL is back!

My ten year old and I had a bet on this one. If the Patriots won, he got a Brawl Pass. If the Seahawks won, he does some chores for free. He went to bed very upset last night. :grimace

I was hoping for a win for Sam Darnold. I cannot imagine being a Vikings fan right now after the season they had ...

Re: Crazy Good Deals Part 2!!

I cannot imagine this industry will look the same in five years. There was such a boom during and after the pandemic. So many knife companies popping up that it is almost impossible to keep track of everything that is out there. Heck, I carried a Kershaw or a SOG up until 2019 before I discovered ...

Re: "Talkin' Story" with Mr. Sal Glesser

Hi Shawn,

Sorry, got caught up in the VG-10, and forgot the ATS-154CM. Don't know if it's a Talkin' story, you decide. Lotta "hear-say" (Maybe Brian can add or verify)

I don't have as much first hand experience, but I'll share what I've learned. 154CM was a Crucible steel, that I believe was ...

What knife is this? Really nice looking!

Kunwu Chad. It's a odd one but I can't stop carrying it! It's got a very aggressive texture, which matches the nail-file grade thumb studs and crip lock bar studs. Great knife for winter gloves. It comes with a ...

Re: Oddball blade steels

Maroon. I cannot think of another sprint that ran through all the models using maroon. PD1 used a burgundy. Most other colors either have been used or are saved for an exclusive.

Or since MagnaMax is similar to K390 but stainless, you could use the lighter blue used for Seki K390 series.

Re: Serrations explained

The Endela is a good start as @Wartstein always suggest. That is where I started. I carry a Military 2 serrated and a Bodacious serrated most often now. Though the Endela K390 serrated was in my pocket today.

Re: Serrations explained

This video really is a great visual explanation of the differences in edges.

Personally I feel coarse PE and polished SE makes more sense for general use, because the edge finish mitigates some of the downsides of the edge type.

Plain edges can slip on slices more easily, so coarse works well ...

It's not an impossible or unreasonable request. For either Magnacut or MagnaMax or even SPY27.

I'll watch the thread.

Talkin' Story;

The Stretch is a very nice all around design. It was originally created when many of the ordinances in the US moved from a 4.0" blade length limit to a 3.5 ...

Re: "Talkin' Story" with Mr. Sal Glesser

Hi Ilocano,

Talkin' Story,

When we first decided to make folding knives, circa 1980, we decided to us the mid-lock-back (sometimes called the front-lock) that Al Mar was using. I worked with Al Mar and his teacher Harvey McBurnette to learn how to make the lock. The lock had a few advantages ...

Re: "Talkin' Story" with Mr. Sal Glesser

Hi Zero,

Talkin' Story;

The original Native design has an interesting history that few probably know. A knife company came to be with a proposal. They said they had an "in" with Walmart. They asked me to design a Spyderco knife knife that would sell well in Wal-Mart, they would build it for us ...

Re: Bodacious Discussion

Great idea on the pic comparison David!

I will add some too. It is interesting to see that you can get an almost Military length edge in an almost smaller folded length than the PM2.

Re: Plain Edge VS Serrated Edge

That statement was not based solely on theory; it was based on Spyderco's manufacturing practices and using a goniometer (which is shown in the photo immediately below that paragraph) to actually measure our factory edges. Most V-ground edges average around a 34-degree included angle. Most ...
