Sounds like you and your son just need a sharpener.
This may be sacrilegious, but maybe your son should get a box cutter or other replaceable scalpel type knife.

Re: Let’s face it Liner Locks and Back Locks suck!
Weird… more than a decade of no-look cut-free backlock closing here….fingers “in the way” and all.

Re: Work vs. "play" knives: I'm not the only one who does this, right?
Depends on the pants. Dragonfly rides daily in the office and off work.
If I’m working in the field (I.e. BFE) i carry the para 3.
No such thing as a work v. Play knife for me. They all work.

I’d like to see more knives in XHP.
Racing green needs to return as an FRN color with a non-zdp189 steel.

Re: Stretch XL Observations
Great comments vivi . I am glade you did knife in hand shots . I checked over my XL after reading post . My lock sits better and my blade is off just a bit not quite as off as yours . Overall I’m glad I ordered the XL . I noticed the FRN is like the Pacific. The black in light has reflective very f...

Re: Low End Spyderco Knives
Please do not tar Taiwan with the same brush you used on China. Taiwan has been making high-end Spyderco knives for years and they deserve respect, I only have a few of the China-made Spydercos. The fit and finish may not match Taiwan or Golden, but they are darn good. I do wish the steel could be ...

Re: cardboard cutting
Cutting cardboard with your pocketknife is a way of learning how your knife performs. It is not a negative thing. Otherwise, what else are you cutting with your pocket knife that couldn't be cut with some other thing? Open boxes = box cutter or back of a key Open mail = letter opener or a finger Ro...

Re: Dragonfly or pocket knife etc. in Magnacut
Now that they have come out with the LW Lil Native, THAT would be the perfect knife for a Magnacut pocket knife. I can’t really get on board with the idea of the lil’native design (it should be called the chaparral since it’s, short, prickly, and tough.) Despite my issues with the lil’native design...

Re: Dragonfly or pocket knife etc. in Magnacut
Cruwear is a trendy steel for sure… but for a tiny knife like a dragonfly?
Make it either wicked easy to sharpen, or next-level edge holding. Toughness would be last on my list.

Re: Hawkbill utility
Spyderco’s hawkbill designs tend to not allow the blade to be deeply seated in the handle when closed. This means that stuff can get wedged in or that you have much less wiggle room before you have a blade that can cut you. They CAN open up in the pocket inadvertently and they CAN cut you (ask me ho...

No need to wonder.
The Dragonfly2 is the only knife I carried for EDC for a long time. Nothing has come close to changing that.

Re: Rise of the larger FRN backlock folders!
I don't find they require any fumbling at all, but hand size might play a role. Do the larger mid backlocks (with 50/50 choil)allow for safe one handed closing (a la closing on the fingers via choil)? of course. i find large lockbacks easier to close than smaller ones. there's nothing unsafe about ...

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??
AB6A830F-E7B6-4B87-B221-1BE70FF6D1B4.jpeg I’m a diehard DF2 carrier. I decided to give the new Para3 a shot. It’s too big for daily carry, but is a good fit for field work and will probably work as a camping and rougher use (probably not backpacking) knife. It is substantial in the hand and G10 tak...

Re: Stretch XL discussion
I would take a stretch JR over a Para 3. Just like I’d take the stretch over the PM2. The XL is a wicked option for a quasi “backlock military” I like it. The RockJumper may just be your knife then, it has the "Stretch" handle, and is smaller than a Stretch1/Stretch2, i.e. Para3-ish sized...

Caveat: I’m not a collector. I’ve never purchased a sprint run, let alone an exclusive. I fully realize I’m not the intended customer… How many people are actually buying these? Obviously enough to sell out but I can’t help but think it’s 50% eBay flippers with the other 50% made up of the same ~1k ...
