Re: Dragonfly warnie for box cutter
I have the VG-10 version. It’s excellent as a work/ utility blade as long as you don’t abuse it (edge chipping). Great for most edc tasks as well. It’s one my favorite Spyderco models.

Re: Price increases 2023?
I just ordered a Pacific Salt 2 today to try and avoid any price increases. This may be my last Spyderco purchase. Prices are getting to be ridiculous.

Re: No longer sure about 14C28N
I have numerous knives in 14c28n. It is by far my favorite steel. Very fine microstructure, gets incredibly sharp, holds that initial sharpness pretty well, and it’s easy to sharpen. I have BD1N in a Para 3 lightweight and it’s just not the same. I haven’t been all that impressed with it. I think 14...

Re: Aqua Salt with other steels? Would you be interested?
I see Magnacut is leading, but the “steel nerds” have to understand that not all of us want vanadium carbides in our steel. I voted keep it H1 but, at this point it would be H2. It’s a shame the Aqua Salt is being considered for disco, and I’m one of those guys who has limited Spyderco options anym...

Re: LC200N Dragonfly
Just a black handle D-Fly Salt please! H2- or LC200N. Wharncliffe? **** yes! I’m mean the handles for the Salt and standard models are the same except for the color. Yes it’s a new sku but man, it’s an easy to do sku.

Re: Steels you won't buy...and why
I won’t buy any steel with vanadium carbides because I value ease of sharpening over edge retention. I’m not cutting up hundreds of feet of cardboard, and if I did I would use a utility knife, nor am I doing any kind of heavy duty cutting on a daily basis. I also don’t like to spend lots of time sha...

Re: Sharpening Media: Survival Style
This is one reason why I don’t buy super steels. I want ease of sharpening on non-diamond media in my daily life, and in an emergency I want to be able to sharpen my knives on a car window, or even a river stone if need be.

Re: Did Spyderco go too far in catering to steel junkies?
Not all knife nerds like, or want “super steels”. I am one of those people. I won’t buy a knife that has vanadium carbide content. Not that I can’t sharpen the stuff, I have diamond rods for my Sharpmaker, its just that I prefer ease of sharpening over shear edge retention. So there are a lot of Spy...

Re: High Performance Delica Excitement
I think VG-10 is the best choice. Would be great if we could get a Para 3 LW in BD1N with this grind.

Re: 50100-B?
I have a Becker BK62 (1095CV) in this steel. Not sure who is actually producing it now since Sharon Steel is no longer in business, but someone obviously is. It takes a wicked sharp edge easy. If Spyderco did a run in this steel I’d be interested.

I would like to see more XHP in Golden production models because I don't buy anything with vanadium carbides.

Re: It would be really cool if Spyderco could switch from 8Cr13MoV for budget blades to 14C28N
Sal, maybe Sandvik is more concerned with other parts of their business rather than knife steel. Up until today I had no idea they were into the whole mining equipment thing. It would appear from what I read today that it’s a large part of their business as well as other ventures. Vivi, I’m with you...

Re: It would be really cool if Spyderco could switch from 8Cr13MoV for budget blades to 14C28N
I’m a really big fan of 14c28n, but I don’t see Spyderco using it. The cost to export it to China would only raise prices on the value line. Lots of other China-made knives are 14c28n. Is there not a local supplier there? It seems weird that so many people would be importing 14c28n to China. Sandvi...

Stropping has made a world of difference for me. I always strop after sharpening, and maintain edges by stropping which means less sharpening overall.

I love super thin hollow grinds, I wish there was more of that in the market. VG-10 is an excellent choice! I wouldn’t be on board with the idea if it was K390.
