Re: Custom MagnaCut Mule Handles

Very nice work. I need to get a drill bench and a small belt grinder to up my custom handle game. Here are my modified halpern 3D G10 scales with four holes: resulting in 4 g of weight saving :zany For anybody who is a weight freak like me: halpern flat G10: 37 g halpern 3D micarta: 41 g halpern 3D ...

Re: Alternative sheaths for MT

Most brisa outdoor blades and knives are drop point: so, from my research this Hiker sheath is the only which is good for leaf / sheepsfoot / wharncliffe shapes it also has this width-step which acts as a stop for the Mule Team's handle-nub / finger-guard so the blade won't go too deep Regarding fit...

Re: Alternative sheaths for MT

Here's a comparison shot between Spyderco's leather sheath and a "Hiker 100" from brisa.
The brisa sheath accommodates thicker handles and has a dangler.
The belt loop only rides a bit higher.

Re: Z-Max feedback. How is yours performing?

Finally managed to made some scales for my Z-Max Mule. My third attempt on scale-making overall: tried to add some red liners this time. That one was challenging as the whole blade was warped, so I tried to find some matching warped handle blocks. I used green-stabilized karelian curly birch wood. E...

Re: Mule Z-Wear PM initial impression and experience

Here is my first ever self-made Mule Team handle (purple stabilized poplar wood by raffir) and kydex: everything done by hand (I skipped some grits so you can still see grind lines from initial filing) I did an impact test on the factory edge (almost factory; you can see I left a secondary bevel aft...

Re: Show your mods!

I did put a clip from a Böker knife on my Lil' Native. The feet needed some dremeling to fit into the G10 grooves. Seems to have better ergonomics for me and it does not bend over because of the flat feet. On a side note: Spyderco deep carry wire clips should be like on the Para 3 LW or UKPK: contin...

Well, here is my very minimalistic kydex sheath set-up:
heating gun, leather gloves, two foam blocks, one wood panel (yes, I am actually standing on it for 5 to 10 minutes :zany )

UKPK, G-10, SPY27: YES, please --> I'm in blade shape: hollow grind anything :winking-tongue (or leaf shape with a swedge) Engraving: some pattern on the G10 please :cheap-sunglasses (maybe Spyderco's diamond arc pattern, or cobalt blue micarta) (I think plain G10 often looks too plain, would even p...

Re: SAGE Series

I would like to see any Sage 5 LW Sprint Run so it is available in Europe.

Next Sage should be a new lock type:
SlipIt or slip-joint would be great at some point
preferably as lightweight version or full micarta/G10/carbon (should not be a heavy knife)

Re: Question for owners of Sun and Moon Chaparral

I have two Chaparrals (CF version with full liners & LW version with nested liners): Both of them had after several hours of fidgeting on the couch (no real cutting use) already scratches on the ricasso. The Chaparral has very tight tolerances. I always thought it is inevitable if one is not ver...

Re: Do you get notifications when buying direct from Golden?

I ordered twice a Mule Team blade this year.
Got one or two days later a shipping notification from Spyderco with tracking number.

For the Z-Wear Mule from last week still no shipping notification.

Re: Spyderco Heinnie Haynes UK Penknife G10 back into stock

Seems that it worked out in the end. Got finally a mail from Heinnie Haynes today that my UKPK will be shipped. Although they tried again that I cancel my pre-order and order again (still not sure why). I have been looking forward to this one for a long time. It will be my first Spyderco exclusive a...

Re: Spyderco Heinnie Haynes UK Penknife G10 back into stock

I am really upset how HH handled this: Friday the whole world gets the mail that this exclusive is in stock. I checked the whole weekend how their stock went down from ~600 to ~300 (now at 150). I ordered and paid 14 months ago. Monday evening, after reminding them of my order, I get a mail from HH ...

Re: Z-Max feedback. How is yours performing?

My Z-Max Mule arrived last week. Wrapped some paracord around it to start testing. Blade is slightly warped (I have zero complaints about that considering the price and what the Mule Team is about). BTE was slightly thinner till mid blade than my S45VN Mule and had same BTE at the front third of the...

Re: Hardness of Z-Max Mule?

Considering Larrin's data on toughness testing I think around 68 HRC would be the optimum regarding edge stability.
Everything above 68.5 HRC for Z-Max would increase edge retention a bit but at the cost of less edge stability.
So, I am happy if Spyderco does heat treat this one to 68.3 HRC.

Re: I'm scared of the Para 3

I have M-sized hands and can barely fit four fingers behind the choil on Para 3. Grip behind choil (similar feeling to Delica) feels better for me because firmer grip and position of thumb on ramp. Para 3 has a really nice rounded handle butt. So I guess if your pinky rests behind the handle it migh...
