Re: Z-Max vs Fire Hose 2

Yeah I look forward to hearing about your sharpening impressions and method/progressions. And anything else you find out about the Z-Max mule! Thanks for posting about your test and results. I have a custom Z-Max Fixed blade edc knife and managed to pick up one of these mules, so I’m a little bit in...

Re: Knife Knuts, Steel Junkies, and Mule...???

I like the mule team driver theme. A Muleteer was another term used long ago for someone who drove teams of mules. Teamster was also used... But I think someone may have a claim on that name already, lol. I was also thinking maybe some sort of play on MTR . An MTR, or Mill Test Report, is a documen...

Re: Spyderco Military and Paramilitary 2 upcoming sprints and exclusives

Since my last comment in this thread I bought an S90V, S110V and an S30V titanium framelock Millie. Now I think a DLC coated serrated edge would hit the spot. Haha I did the same thing kind of since my last post, I now have a S110V, S90V, and Cruwear Millie’s and boy do I still love them all. Still...

Re: Skeletonized Mule for Backpacking

Flared tubes ... Xplorer: I've read in the making of traditional pocket knives, makers would often flare the wood hole slightly (larger hole to the outside of the scale) and then pound (or spin) the brass pins so the pin flared/deformed and filled the flared wood hole. The idea was that the scales ...

Re: Skeletonized Mule for Backpacking

.. I’ve been trying to think of a way to flare them without an arbor press, any ideas there would be greatly appreciated! ... Flaring them provides a mechanical advantage that is ideal. You'll need some sort of press or a flaring clamp at least to flare the tubes. However, if you are using water st...

Re: Skeletonized Mule for Backpacking

Looks great! I love the way the jimping turned out. Am I seeing correctly that you beveled the sides of the jimping? As for Kydex..super easy for you. I seriously suggest you should do it yourself and you'll be happy that you will forever have the ability to make yourself a sheath any time, for any...

Re: Sal - What's next for the Military?

.... And for the “military 2” just like vivi has said I don’t want a lock change that takes away from how light it currently is or how easy it is to deploy, so my choice would be probably the compression lock or ball bearing lock. After trying the chief I don’t think a lockback would be good.... I ...

Re: Sal - What's next for the Military?

I’m just finding this thread and will add my 2 cents as the Military was my first introduction to spyderco and still is my favorite model. I like the military as is and would just like to see more exclusives and sprints ( I have a s110v, s90v, cru-wear, Rex 45, and Rex 45 is my favorite hands down a...

Re: Mirror polished edges - Which steels are better (and worst) for taking them?

I've seen photos and videos of several Spyderco enthusiasts putting mirror edges on their PM2s with the Lansky system, all without your side-effect of scratching the blade...maybe you should try taping the blade and leaving only the edge/near-edge part for sharpening and polishing? Maybe you should...

Hmmm. I guess it pays to be prompt. I never had any trouble getting mine, but I also have the SFO on speed dial. :D It actually takes longer to order online than it did to call in.
Were you able to get a Zmax mule by calling in?

Mine comes tomorrow
I need to figure out the best way to sharpen it.
I might need to get some more sharpening toys
I wanted a Spyderco medium bench stone but they are out of stock.
I’d recommend going with diamond or cbn for these higher carbide steels

Re: Z-Max feedback. How is yours performing?

I just gave mine a light touch up when it arrived but I need to give it a full sharpening to compare it to my other Mules. The edge is holding up nicely after breaking down several large boxes and some light food prep on a wood cutting board but my PMA11 Mule that hasn't been sharpened in well over...

Re: MT29P - Mule Team Featuring Z-Max PM Release Info!

z-max should be fine for hunting and fishing. For kitchen duty, I'd recommend something a little more stainless. For hunting and fishing, being stainless should be an even higher priority than in the kitchen. At least you can quickly clean a knife in a kitchen. In outdoor environments, that won't h...

Re: Tips for Purchasing a Mule Team!

Has to be something like that. It's at a point where it's smarter to buy the prebuilt PC with the card you want and either upgrade it all or swap the card out and sell the rest for whatever you can get back. People are selling them for $2500+ on eBay and what's amazing is people are actually paying...
