Help with stained/patina Rex 45 military

Hi all I am posting because I could really use some help. I messed up big time trying to remove the smallest amount of surface rust on my military Rex 45. I used Metal Rescue gel and followed the directions to a T. And this is what happened 😭🤬
Thanks for any help

Future Rex 45 military & paramilitary 2 runs

Does anyone know if spyderco plans on doing anymore Rex 45 Military’s, paramilitary 2’s, native chiefs, etc. sprint runs? Mostly hoping for military’s lol

Re: Spyderco Military and Paramilitary 2 upcoming sprints and exclusives

My first spyderco was a Military Rex 45. I love it. It’s made me obsessed with spydercos 🤣 Also have a K390 paramilitary, but man do I loVe that rex45 Millie. I’ve really been looking for another Millie maybe in cruwear or if I ever get a chance to pick up a second rex45 would do that in a heartbeat...

Re: Need advice! Freehand or Guided System

Go ahead and get a kit or guided system either one. But also learn the skill of sharpening freehand. There are some good books out there and some good Youtube videos that I've found quite helpful to improve your sharpening skills. You can't go wrong either way. Learn how to keep your stones clean a...

Re: Need advice! Freehand or Guided System

Thank you everyone for the replies they have definitely been helpful in making my decision. It seems like the real answer is to have both. My struggle with free handing is if I want to change the angle of my knives I don’t really know for sure what their *** and I really don’t want to screw up my mo...

Re: Need advice! Freehand or Guided System

I freehand (not the best, but getting better), so I say stick with freehand. What is drawing your interest to a fixed-angle system? The accuracy and consistency of them. I don’t want to f up my newer knives because I suck af free hand. And also I like that you know what angle your sharpening at so ...

Re: Need advice! Freehand or Guided System

I usually sharpen freehand, but my obsessive personality took issue with the slight convexing my skills produce. Even if the bevels are matching, clean, and the knife is sharp, the convex edges just bother me. I went out and got a KME, because it came with diamond stones, has a great reputation, an...

You mean like this? Easy to do if you enjoy making FrankenManix’s!

Is there a video on how to do this? Probably voids the warranty right?

Need advice! Freehand or Guided System

Hey everybody I would really appreciate any advice y’all have for me. I just got a few new Spyderco knives one in Rex 45 and a K390 and I’ll be looking to get a maxamet soon. Currently I have Chosera whetstones but I’m looking to get a new set of stones probably diamond, looking mainly at Venev’s. B...

Mixing of sharpening stones?

I have chosera stones at the moment but am looking to get a set of diamond stones (probably going with Venevs), so I’m trying to decide what grits I should get but I think I heard someone mention you shouldn’t use different types of stones ie:diamond, whetstone, ceramic, Sic etc... because of the di...

Re: How low do you go?

I take both my Spydercos to 17 degrees off the flat grind. Since I use my knife for serious work, I'm cognizant of the diminished strength of steeper angles. But even more important, a shallower angle diminishes the aesthetic appeal of an otherwise pretty knife. For me, it makes no sense to go stee...

Re: K390 PM2 | Testing

Took me a few years after our conversation to get one but I understand now. Works nice for testing. Good stuff, thanks. Surprised at how uneven the grind was. I don't mind bevels being uneven when freehand sharpening. I just keep the angle as consistent as possible and disregard the bevel. I've nev...

Re: Blazinblades.com

How Do "Arn"..I purchased a C77SOR SpyderHawk H1 from them not too long ago. It is the real deal, however it was a bit pricey. I wanted it so I bought it and have not been disappointed at all. Blazinblades seems to have some hard to find Spyderco Knives at a premium price. Hope this helps you out. ...
