this 8Cr knife is the only one I've used that performs as good as my 8Cr spydies

Other companies seem to run it softer. Always feels more prone to burring outside of my Byrd/Spyderco/CS knives.
Never realized the SR1 Lite looks like a tactical Counter Puppy.

Re: Magnacut Salt Native, then Manix, whats next?

I think every steel ever should be offered in the Ladybug. More realistically, maybe the UKPK.

420HC? Ladybug.

ATS-34? Ladybug.

CPM-9000V UltraSuperMega? Ladybug.

Mithril? Ladybug.

Magnacut? Naturally, Ladybug.

Re: Shot Show recap, thoughts, things I learned

I didn't realize BBB didn't have a metallurgy background. I really appreciate autodidactic folks carving out a niche. Makes me wonder why he brute-forced so much research on 15v in particular. Was it that 15v has unique properties in this regard, or was there a breakthrough in heat treatment more br...

Re: Spyderco backlocks : why is the stop pin an exception, instead of being the norm ?

I ask myself that same question every time I use a Seki back lock. Which is about 1-3 times a day. They're the vast majority of my Spydies. I love the Seki lineup for being: affordable(ish), slim, ergonomic, grippy, colorful, lightweight, made of H2 and/or K390. I do not love the lock rock. But, it ...

Re: New Tenacious Frame Lock in D2?

Nice video. The new Tenacious almost buries the lede. That Rex121 Sage looks awesome. As does the 15V Manix LW, but I am disappointed it is another limited run. I wonder if there is any way to know more about what maker they're using for the D2 Tenacious. I've been wanting to try out TwoSun for year...

Re: Vantablack Spydercos

I’d like to see Spyderco use Black 4.0 - if it’s really as fragile as vantablack is, perhaps it could be used as a base color with a clear polycarbonate or resin coating…or gorilla glass or whatever Apple put in their older flagship iPhones that was durable enough to be the entire back side of the ...

It'd be a good chance to try that Magnacut everyone's talking about. Especially in UKP form. Sub-$100 for the current Big Thing would be pretty tempting

Re: Decision time what to purchase, don’t say by both

If I'm going to carry a tank of a knife I want a full sized handle and blade. Wonder if Spyderco would ever consider "Bodacious-ize-ing" the Manixes, deleting the choil, and bringing the edge right up to the handle... Good idea. The Modacious? The Bonix? "Bodanix" sounds like me...

Re: New Dragonfly

Also, I'll be heterodox and say "other". What about a kris pattern? Maximize edge length for a tiny knife. It'd more or less be for the sake of novelty, but it would be cool. Also also, I've never really understood the harpoon thing. Maybe if the shelf/ ramp thing was way closer to the tip...

Re: New Dragonfly

I might just be lacking imagination here, but a "big belly skinner" seems like it would be difficult to fit into the handle. Now that I think about it, really any shape with a more upward tip seems difficult.

Re: Compression Lock Patent - Expired?

The Vosteed Mayhem is evidently using a button actuated compression lock. It appears similar to a Smock. Not a terrible looking knife. They claim that their new "patent-pending" lock is a hybrid of "insert-liner lock" and Compression Lock. I've never heard of the company, so I r...

Re: My Manix side by side with a knife from around 300 b.C.

Interesting how modern the knife looks. Then again, 300 BCE is practically yesterday when you think about how some species of ancient human were using edged tools 3 million years ago. 5,000 years from now someone with a shovel will find the remnants of a modern folding knife. A corroded chunk of ste...

Re: Bow River Upgrade!

Something to consider is what steels the factory will work with. If it is the same factory that makes the Chinese value folders. the options are 8Cr, M4, S35VN, and BD1N. I've never owned S35VN (somehow!), but I like all the other steels just fine. I'd like a BD1N variant if it could keep the spirit...

If anything, I think the biggest take away we should all get from this thread is that we should have a screw construction SS Police with K390.

I don't think the factory where the Bow River is made works with those steels. If ever they start, it'd probably be a long time from now.

Re: Edgerati Prototype

I'd seen the "S" model with the web shaped blade, but the "R" is new to me. Interesting that Sal's been doing variants of the ultra-skeletonized folder for so long. With all the new polymers that can support a blade without liners, the concept seems a bit outdated. Still cool for...

Re: My First Spyderco

I was gifted a Tenacious, but the first Spyderco I bought was also a Manix. I'd defs suggest trying something from the Seki factory, especially in K390 (best way to economically try out a "supersteel" imo)... and a Tenacious or something similar so you have a ~$50 knife to beat on.
