Re: 2022-2023 Forum Knife

Spyderhawk... there's no decent working hawkbills being made by anyone in the size.

Re: Spydersaw anyone?

-snip- But as a just in case (emergency) tool in a very light and small pack the Spydersaw would be pretty much ideal. Weighs next to nothing, but offers a much longer saw blade than any multitool I am aware of. For under 6oz one could bring a Spydersaw/Pac Salt pair (or instead of the latter a lig...

Re: Trying SE for the first time on a Byrd ?

I'll have to try it with cardboard! The Byrd hawkbill is already my favorite knife, thanks to utility in the garden and it's nice precise tip. Upgrading with the Meadowlark's titanium scales, it looks really nice as well.

Re: Speculative 2022 Discontinued List Discussion Thread

White Mountain Knives dropped the price on the Brouwer. You can also use coupon LTK for an additional 10% off. Yesterday at 1:35pm PT, I asked Justin of WMK to drop the price of the Brouwer since it was discontinued. To his credit he did in less than hour! $153 is a lot better than $189 and it ship...

Re: Blade HQ Lil Native in Satin M4 and jade scales

I was lucky to grab one of these... I've been wanting a "tough steel" lil Native to put titanium scales on. Thanks for the heads-up!

Re: Byrd Hawkbill, Replacement Scales? Deep-Carry Clip?

Congrats on the mod Kale! A bit delayed in reply from getting back into town and dealing with BIOS issues on computer. Not sure if this info may help, there are Delica 4 pivot screw with pivot screw shaft replacements in the aftermarket. I did some quick checking and the Delica 4 pivot screws will ...

Re: New large hawkbill model? Can we get one?

Not only is there nothing like this in the Spyderco catalogue, there's nothing like this on the market. The closest I can find is halfway between the size of the Tasman and the Spyderhawk and significantly heavier. I've yet to get my hands on one, but the Spyderhawk looks like it would be great on ...

Re: Byrd Hawkbill, Replacement Scales? Deep-Carry Clip?

Oloung, thanks for all the helpful info. The swap went well, although there's a bit of play at the tip (when closed). It seems like I can't quite get the pivot screw tight enough (and I did manage to strip it... I don't imagine those are replaceable?). In any case, it's good enough to use and it loo...

Re: Byrd Hawkbill, Replacement Scales? Deep-Carry Clip?

I have a Meadowlark but haven't put an aftermarket clip on yet. I have added the generic Delica $10-12 ebay style deep carry clips on my Cara Cara 2s and Robin with ok results. I would think the C11 type clips should fit the Hawkbill too. But the fit and finish on the generic TI c11 clips are reall...

Re: Byrd Hawkbill, Replacement Scales? Deep-Carry Clip?

I noticed that PeaceInOurTime mentioned on another thread doing a blade swap with a Titanium Meadowlark. So that answers my question on that. I just ordered a Ti Meadowlark off Ebay... I've already got the Robin 2 in Titanium, so I can tell it's going to be a really nice upgrade for the hawkbill. I'...

Byrd Hawkbill, Replacement Scales? Deep-Carry Clip?

I keep returning to the Byrd Hawkbill as my most practical all-around edc. So I'm looking at what I might do to upgrade... The frn scales are great, but I'd like to upgrade (either with a different material or different color). Will scales from the Meadowlark 2 work with the Hawkbill blade? Any afte...

Re: Maybe Even A Bigger Hawkbill?

I'd take larger, but I'd settle for the original Spyderhawk for work on the farm. I'm kicking myself for not jumping on a sub-$200 Spyderhawk over the winter. There's nothing comparable to that currently on the market. So for now I use the Byrd Hawkbill and the Byrd Cara Cara Rescue. The safety tip ...

Re: Spyderco MSRP Increase for 2021?

-snip- If the other retailers died, as they surely would, then ebay and amazon control all delivery, and they are both profoundly anti-gun. Guns and knives overlap, so there is every reason to believe they would leverage that power "politically." Very true. Amazon has already stopped most...

Re: Spyderco MSRP Increase for 2021?

For some reason price increases don't get called "inflation" anymore, but that's what they are. When the Federal Reserve prints endless trillions for Wall Street, this is one way we pay for that (the other being lost income when the bubble bursts). In the 9 months since passage of the last...

Re: Cara Cara 2 sized hawkbill?

I'd love to see a Byrd version of the Spyderhawk (or Cara Cara-sized hawkbill). No one is making anything like this (believe me, I've looked) and the asking price for most Spyderhawks is crazy. I have the FRN Byrd Hawkbill pictured above... it's fantastic. I use it at the Community Garden I run, alo...

Re: Thee Most Practical Spyder Of All Time? Your Choice?

I think the gap between the handle and blade was the culprit. It actually partially opened up a few times before I cut myself. My first spyderco (and first knife - ever) was a ladybug so I’m definitely a fan - I’ll just pass on the hawksbill. Have you tried tightening the pivot? I'm considering the...
