Re: Steeltoez83 testing log
Got around to testing the buck clone and the leafjumper. I goofed on the 2nd edge of the clone, but the 3rd edge confirmed the 1st edge. At 40% of 70 I did 28 slices, followed by 14 chops on ice to reach 60% It passed, so I did 5 more slices and it failed at 47. In sharpening it sounds like a squeak...

Re: Get me excited about M398
M398 doubled my Aeb-l test cut numbers. Makes perfect sense to me seeing those results with feathersticks. I define toughness as the steels ability to absorb impact, and it's effect on edge retention. I lock my wrist when feathersticking, so I will assume your not twisting or hitting rocks.

Re: Is Spyderco missing out on the fixed blade market?
I gravitate more towards custom work when it comes to fixed blade options. I do feel spyderco has a good prescence in the fixed blade market, just not as dominant as they are in others. The mule team endorses the fork around and find out mentality which I appreciate alot.

Re: Steeltoez83 testing log
Spyderco leafjumper in k390. One of my favorite carry knives. I have cut tested seki k390 before, but nothing for this thread. 475 is right where my stretch and delica tested before.

Re: Social networks vs. forums - possible return of content to the forums?
I think of social media as a digital diary. A legacy I can leave to my daughter when I'm gone. A blueprint on how to indulge in a hobby, and to help pay it forward to newcomers. Some are strictly interested in just the results nothing more. It's my hope everyone I've impacted with my hobby created a...

Screenshot_20240506_115548_Gallery.jpg This week I'm testing an obvious clone of the buck 110 in 8cr13mov. I saw this at my local hardware store for 20 dollars. I haven't listed any spyderco 8cr testing results in this thread, so it should be a fun comparison. Build quality is very poor on the clon...

Re: Steeltoez83 testing log
400 grit cbn stone used for 3 minutes on my HIC mule. I expected it to exaggerate damage from the ice whacks but it didn't. It could be the damage was so small it just avoided it all together.

Re: Show your Mule
Screenshot_20240501_074847_Gallery.jpg I normally just buy my mule scales from the younger bro of a knifemaker friend. I am not sure if Elijah has gravitated towards full time knifemaker or not. I think the term metal maestro sounds better than knifemaker personally. These contoured scales feel rea...

Re: Steeltoez83 testing log
Screenshot_20240430_171130_Gallery.jpg The HIC mule wasn't able to pass day 2. After day 1 it was fine, but after day 2 it failed. It was still technically sharper at this point than when I received it. 2 days out of the benchmark 7 is a lot more brittle than I'd like to see. I'm deciding if it's t...

Re: You got your Ceramic Mule. How you gonna sharpen it?
I have my own criticisms of why this was made too. I wasn't wearing my excited pants when the ball started rolling either. I'm moving thru these shenanigans of mine to really see what this stuff can do. So far I haven't thought of a practical use for it yet. However I have seen edge retention improv...

I usually grab my urban lightweight over my dragonfly or lil native. If i had 2 pick 1 from the 2 listed options id go native.

Re: MT40P HIC testing (Warning extreme testing)
I haven't seen the video. I'm doing my own impact testing this week tho. I get bothered when content creators don't burrow thru a few edges first before batoning or whatever they decide to do. Batoning thru a brick to me is poor judgment period. I started with 220 and ended up with 630 in my own cut...

Re: Steeltoez83 testing log
156 cuts followed by 78 chops on ice, then another 81 cuts to get 315 out of 390. Roughly an 81% efficiency rating. I have to mention that this knife was gifted to me by kurt for testing purposes.

Re: Steeltoez83 testing log
Screenshot_20240428_154844_Gallery.jpg Latest cut test numbers pull it ahead of maxamet by 110. I plan on testing this guy along with zdp 189 tomorrow on the ice. Instead of 60% aka 40-20 ratio, I'm thinking of just extending it 7 days to reach 60% on this ceramic. 36 cuts and 18 ice chops per day....

Re: Steeltoez83 testing log
Screenshot_20240427_130824_Gallery.jpg I have my technique dialed in for putting an edge on this material. The latest cut test reached 400 which nearly doubled the last one. The stone I used was the spyderco cbn benchstone- 800 side only. In a perfect world it only takes 5 minutes, but I will retes...

Factory edge was quite dull so I tuned it up. Ended up with 220 on my sanding roll with my HIC mule.

Re: You got your Ceramic Mule. How you gonna sharpen it?
Normally I use a 1k super vit for testing. However I know very few ppl have that stone so I will be switching up to the spyderco cbn benchstone and recording the times. I'm still deciding on specifics so I have the ability and agility to adjust accordingly. On my sanding roll I got 220 cuts today. I...
