Re: In Defense of Liners
I’m with you in favor of liners. Even if linerless FRN is perfectly adequate, steel liners are necessarily more sturdy and rigid. But for me, the real difference is in the feel. Linerless knives feel cheap and flimsy, even if they aren’t. I’ve gotten used to it more or less in the Native 5 Lightweig...

Re: Seki City models disappointing
I’ve been very lucky with the Seki City models. I’ve owned a couple dozen, and only had one that had problems I couldn’t correct with a few minutes’ adjustment. It was a Delica with blade play/lock rock. It seems like there was a time when this was a common problem for the Japanese Spydercos, but I ...

Re: Chinese Centering
Props and all that, but I meant in reference to Spyderco’s China models specifically. And if you don’t require perfect centering, that’s all good and well, duly noted. But my question is WHY? Civivi, Kizer, Ontario and all of these other Chinese makers are able to deliver near perfect centering. Why...

Chinese Centering
So… what’s the deal with blade centering on the Chinese models? I have a Tenacious and a Resilient, and both have the exact same off-centeredness, about 60% favoring the show side. It seems weirdly consistent, and it can’t be adjusted out, even by making the pivot unbearably tight. Many reviewers ha...

Re: Cruwear and S45VN sharpening differences
My only experience with these steels is in the PM2 and Para 3 and I found both relatively easy to sharpen, not very different from S35vn.

If I had a Magnacut PM2 I would probably drop Fat Carbon scales on it and I could die a happy man.

Re: Do you force a patina on your tool steel blades?
My first was Maxamet, and I turned it sort of gray, so it matches the handle. One of my REX45's, I gave it a darker--maybe black/brown--that goes well with reddish handles. After those, I kind of got the "forced patina" out of my system. Same. I did my Rex45 Shaman and K390 PM2 And I was ...
