Re: serrated Delica/Salt 2 sized wharncliffe experience/recommendations

Idk, but my serrated H1 dragonfly rolls if I use it on cardboard, whereas I can hack through a 1cm thick vine in a single swing with my LC200N Salt without even a hint of damage.

Re: serrated Delica/Salt 2 sized wharncliffe experience/recommendations

IMO the durable cutting power of serrations mask H1's horrible edge retention, but IMO LC200N both has better wear resistance and is more resistant to rolls than H1, so it is the overall superior steel unless you just need something that is completely chemically impervious to rust.

New Knife Steel Nerds video covering K390

https://youtu.be/UhfBLjuyqsU The tl;dw is that it's good, but doesn't offer any *huge* advantages over other similar-class high-edge-retention-moderate-toughness tool steels. I do wonder if the hot hardening benefits Larrin mentions in the video result in a steel that has better properties after fa...

I love cruwear, but I think small knives benefit from being as maintenance-free as possible, so I prefer dragonflies in stainless steels.

Re: Para3 blade stock

And this touches on my main gripe with the P3. What I wanted/hoped for was a more pocket friendly PM2, not just a shorter blade. As I said, I sold my PM2 before I got my P3, so I've never compared them side by side, but with the P3 being shorter and just as chunky, combined with that awkward clip p...

Re: Does the CBBL spring compress over time?

I tried 8 different Manix models and detested the lock on every one. Sold them all. I thought that the lock was so difficult to operate that it made the knife somewhat unsafe. I would love to love the knife and I might try one more time the compression lock is just so perfect, the back lock so soli...

Re: Paramilitary or Manix

I own both and find myself consistently pocketing the PM2. If I had to do a lot of cutting with gloves on, or similar frequent heavier-duty cutting tasks I'd go with the Manix because I think it's got better ergonomics for extended cutting sessions and the CBBL is extremely easy to actuate even with...

Re: An ode to the compression lock.

For me, I think the compression lock simply offers the best fast, worry-free one-handed opening and closing. The vast majority of my knife tasks involve taking the blade out, making a quick cut, then putting it away, all with one hand and as quickly as is safely possible. Cutting things is mostly a ...

Lately I've been really wanting more serrated Shamans in different steels, and MagnaCut and Cruwear are two at the top of my list.
Would love to see a cruwear SE torture test.

Re: Good sharpener for Magnacut

Considering the fact that Magnacut goes hard on the Vanadium carbides in order to achieve it's properties, I think one thing that should be considered when choosing a sharpening system is that steels vanadium carbides tend to have better edge longevity/wear resistance when sharpened with diamonds or...

Color combo aside, I'm amazed that nobody has mentioned what an amazing deal this knife is. Cruwear from a manufacturer that cares about good heat treats for just a bit over $100 is a wildly good value.

Re: SE MagnaCut Testing Thread

Yeah that would be great especially with this model since it does come in a couple different steels. A lot is already well known about S30V and VG10 though. I think on a lot of these tests the edge damage is inevitable, especially with how thin a serrated edge is. My son and best friend both carry ...

Re: SE MagnaCut Testing Thread

@EvilD I love these threads, but what would make them more useful is if you would do the testing side-by-side with the same knife (or a similar one when that isn't possible) with more common steels that people have been using for a long time. For this test probably the best control would be the serr...

Just a note from someone who has worked in polymers process engineering:

y'all are forgetting that injection molding machines draw a *lot* of power, which surely factors into costs as well.

Yeah the FRCP Manix LW pulls off extreme lightness while not feeling flimsy at all. I would get one in your hands and put it through some hard use before you judge that this is necessary.

Re: Do I have a fake LIL' NATIVE G-10 SLIPIT?

Frequently product photos are taken from pre-production samples, and since the text is consistent with the other picture, and the rest of the knife looks good I don't see any reason to suspect it. This model is way too new for there to be counterfeits this good yet, IMO.

I’m just surprised that they haven’t used dlc on a steel like k390. Re: High-entropy alloys?

When discussing these materials, what is meant by "high entropy?"[/font] One of the almost-but-not-quite-the-complete-picture ways to think of entropy is as the number of configurational states that exist in a system. If an alloy like this has a similar amount of a variety of elements, th...
