Re: "Knife People" more price sensitive?

Interesting range of responses. Most seem to be in defense of the tightwad, at this point. ..... Maybe the dealers get the bulk of the "generous" shoppers, and the "pincy-pennys" end up shopping eBay for deals (assuming friend's report is valid). :squinting-tongue I think your a...

I've wondered about this as well but then again, we have been eating from telfon coated pans and lead ceramic dishes for years so how much harm is an occasional bit of carbon or ti? 🤣

Re: Best Spyderco budget beater knife.

I never even really looked at those tbh. What's the difference besides the hole shape? The price looks good for what I would need it. The Siki City lines will have higher end steel, more chamfering of the frn scales and if your budget goes beyond $100 usd I would also agree the Salts lines are suit...

Re: Best Spyderco budget beater knife.

I'll be the fourth to mention the frn Byrd CaraCara 2, length restrictions aside, it has a decent edge length and it's fairly easy to resharpen. The only thing that may be missing is the chamfered frn scale edges of the Harrier 2.

Re: Why have multiple of same knife.

Another reason i have multiple of the same knives. Is plain lazyness i have 5 manix users and even now that i have great sharpening systems i like to sharpen as less as possible. So having another favorit sharp and ready is always fun for me. I think this is me, having an immediate fresh edge of th...

Re: LC Salt 2 wharncliffe or Delica 4 wharncliffe?

One thing against the Salt, mine is not super smooth on the pivot. I don't know if mine could eb adjusted better, or if the washer running directly on the polymer handle creates some friction. I don't care about that and if you're looking at backlocks, maybe you don't either. Is it grittiness or mo...

Re: Byrd Fnife

Can anyone tell me what angle the factory grind for Byrd knife? Also, how steep of sharpening angle can the Byrd metal tolerate? I haven't tried measuring the factory angle but so far I like the slicing performance of 15 dps on 8cr. 15 dps + 20 dps microbevel might help with edge stability but i'd ...

Re: Have you tried a serrated z-cut?

Is the serration pattern slightly different than what’s done on their folders? From your photo, it almost looks like the large serration is longer on the Z-Cut than on their folders. The large serrations on my zcut has same length as my Atlantic Salt and CE Delica but are shallower than both. The p...

Re: Finally got burned by Amazon

.. They have a lot of the stuff I need for 3D printing too. Recently I've placed some orders and received them the same day.. I was looking for the 3d print thread when this caught my eye. I ended up receiving an Amazon Return printer last week with melted filament behind the touchscreen surface. :...

Re: Cheap DIY Scales?

I like quality knives and want a Spyderco of course, but I don't have a very big budget, so I usually end up looking at Civivi instead, because they are cheaper and have comparable quality to the best in the industry. But I still want a Spyderco. Maybe the Byrd Meadowlark G10 could be an option? It...

Re: LWD Tactical Armorer's Tool Endura

I one does not need the tool for Glock-maintenance: I usually use my glock tool to align the washers and tang into the scale liners during reassembly on my seki lockbacks, makes it impossible for the washers to slip out of alignment and allows putting in the pivot barrel instantly. Though I know a ...

Re: Byrd Ergos? (why isn’t the cara cara chamfered)

... I am not a fan and often take a Dremel to them to add curves. It's not the prettiest result and takes some time, but makes a more user friendly knife IMO. I did the same with emery boards by filing down the FRN edges for a rounder profile. Initially after filing it looked unpleasant with the di...

I'd guess I have more VG-10 than anything else. A lot of Seki lockbacks in my collection. A fair bit of S30V and 8Cr13 and H1 in the mix too.
This is me too, Vg10 the most, then tied with 8cr & s30v as a second. I have a few sekis too.

... a. The thumb hole and blade in general - sometimes have very acute edges. Well machined but sharp, so I take down the edges for the thumbhole, spine, jimping, and then do a light polish (reduces corrosion IMO - I use around salt water and rinse after each use, no problems so far). fine tune loc...
