Re: High-End Spyderco Knife Line

Ok recently, as many of you may remember, I was pummeled by the Forum members for making the suggestion that Spyderco eliminate its lower end knives made in China (I learned to recant my initial inclusion of Taiwan) in order to preserve Spyderco's image as a top quality knife company (and different...

Re: Maxamet vs ZDP-189

I am wondering how the two compare over all in performance. I know neither are very tough but have very high edge retention. With maxamet seemingly being above all other steals in edge retention, I am curious as to how zdp 189 stacks up against it. Again, not just in edge retention but the other as...

Re: Is MAP pricing % changing come 2022?

Yojimbo 2 could be had for $99 for a number of years and at least as late as 2014, so that's actually a ~55% increase in 7 years. This is BladeHq from 2014 https://i.imgur.com/6sL3rSn.png I paid a buck less than that in 2012 for mine. It could be misremembering, but it seems like prices didn't jump...

Re: Is MAP pricing % changing come 2022?

If you love Spyderco, they are going to need your support in 2022. Sales may be rough for many. Find those knives that really tick the boxes! I remember when the fans here cried "KNIVES ARE A LUXURY" every time someone called out the price control since 2016. And you know what? You all we...

Re: Speculative 2022 Discontinued List Discussion Thread

I've searched for a Brouwer at a discounted price since it has been discontinued. All 10+ dealers I've looked at are still selling it for $189.00 which is the MAP price (30% off MSRP of $270.00)! They're probably low on stock. Some display the fact that it has been discontinued. None of the knives ...

Re: Change my mind: the Shaman costs too much

My intension of making this thread was not to troll or to cause fights. I'm sorry if it came off that way. :( Eh, I'll be honest it did seem that way to me, or at the very least you didn't really seem like you were open to having your mind changed. Sometimes when people ask questions like this they...

Re: phenomenal premium steels in an itty bitty living space

disclaimer: i understand perfectly that there are people that have to carry smaller knives for legal reasons and that there are other people that just prefer smaller knives and that those people probably want to try different steels too. i'm not trying to take anything away from those people. this ...

Re: Cutleryshoppe Exclusive Shaman, Stonewash CTS-XHP, Orange G10

This is interesting. Can anyone tell me how corrosion resistance and edge retention is compared to the standard S30V model? I’ve never owned or used a knife with CTS-XHP so I have nothing judge it against. XHP has pretty good corrosion resistance. I lost a Cold Steel XHP knife in the woods once, fo...

Re: Most Underestimated Steel.

ZDP is interesting because it’s one of the highest end steels that can be sharpened with normal india and crystolon stones to good effect. Most of the other steels in its class require diamond or CBN to achieve the same results. While ZDP-189 is easier to sharpen on ceramics than, say, something li...

Re: Most Underestimated Steel.

When a steel falls from favor because there is a readily available better choice now on the market, it's not underrated. It is overtaken. You're implying that the consumer is not totally manipulated by the profit seeking motive of the market, which is of course false. None of the new steels seeking...

Re: Most Underestimated Steel.

In the days of of Maxament, Rex 45, 20cv, k390, Zwear and upcoming Magnacut etc, it is easy to underestimate steels that aren't new with a Rockwell above 65. What steels do you think are most underestimated? To me, it seems that VG10 and s30v get a bad rap among Spyderco loving knife nerds, despite...

People are spoiled. I am impressed that S30V has been reduced to 420hc status. S110V too has been forgotten, amazingly.

Re: Change my mind: the Shaman costs too much

In general, I'd say Spyderco knives cost too much now, and increasingly not only Spyderco but the whole industry. And it is not because of "new steels." My conspiracy theory is that there is an industry wide collaboration with these "MAPs" to keep the cost artificially inflated. ...

Re: Change my mind: the Shaman costs too much

Shaman is twice the knife the Para 2 is. Change MY mind. Thought you never owned a pm2? I might have been the first person to own one, I remember when they released you couldn't find them anywhere and I found one in digicam at my local knife shop. I was a PM2 fanboy for a long time until I tried ot...

Re: Why are most Golden blades on the thicker side?

I think the OVERBUILT trend is starting to fade, making way for thinner stock. I'm still hoping for some "skinny" versions of Golden classics (namely a PM2 Skinny Backlock ;) There seem to be enough threads about skinny versions of various models to confirm the market is there for them. T...

Re: Police 3 Replacement Washers

Having a list of washer dimensions would be handy. Just like there is a HRC list already. The pm2 washers are much larger than the police's, but the problem is that none of the websites selling replacements specify the model or brand rhe washers fit for, they just give dimensions. So, if you still ...

Police 3 Replacement Washers

I had to sharpen a Police 3 for a friend but before that I disassembled the knife because of rust locking up the action, and I ended up losing one of the bronze washers. Does Spyderco do replacement washers and if not, does anyone know what size the Police 3's washers are so I can try and find some ...
