Re: My thumb keeps slipping from the hole on my new spyderco

I'll throw this out until we hear back from Alicia. I have to hold knives differently in my hand due to the design of the knife. When I slow roll most Spyderco's open with my thumb I'm pushing the Round Hole towards 10 o'clock. When I slow roll the Native 5 open, in particular, it either won't go, o...

Re: What did you use your Spyderco for last?

I used my new CBN Tri-Angles on my SharpMaker to sharpen a new Mantra. The CBN Tri-Angles leave a fine scratch pattern that will minimize the pattern left on the bevel from manufacturing or after using the diamond Tri-angles. Using the medium (brown) Tri-Angles after the CBN's will smooth the bevel ...

Re: Is Sal Glesser Irreplaceable?

I wonder how much longer he’ll be with us (nobody knows but once you start approaching 80 you ponder - if Biden can do it at 78 why not Sal) and how his unique and cherished online presence will be continued and/or missed? PS - Don’t mean to be morbid or negative just honest in these trying times! ...

Re: What did you use your Spyderco for last?

I've been using my LC200N/Salt 2 with the Wharncliffe blade at work lately. We use many different kinds of thin sheet materials in the process of laying up carbon fiber panels. I've found the Wharncliffe blade shape works well for not only slicing material off of rolls, and piercing it, but it also ...

Re: Remove Loctite from G10

This may sound dumb, but try more Loctite. Dab it on with a cotton swab. The wet Loctite may act like a solvent on the dried stuff.

Re: Spy27 Mule in use and testing feedback

Cambertree, Wow, looking at the edge you've put on that so far makes me want to spend more time working on refining mine this weekend. My SPY27 Mule already had a more acute grind angle on the edge compared to my PD1 Mule, right out of the boxes. I devoted more time on the SharpMaker to the PD1 Mule...

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

I was carrying one of my Mantras at work yesterday with the Salt 2 Wharncliffe in my locker.

Today, it's looking like my PM 2, CE 52100 in the pocket and a Para 3, S 90V in reserve.

That's beautiful. Are those more expensive than the standard version?
Yes, I've seen the Classic beech wood version in stores for about $18 (USD). The Premium woods, walnut, oak, or olive, are about $25 (USD). Opinel uses other woods and birch laminates, too. Prices will vary depending on size.

Re: Wild Grain On An Opinel Handle

Does he have any more along those lines? I'd love an Opinel that looks like that. The only other Olive handled ones with honorable mention had straight pronounced grain. I bought it at JAX Outdoor Gear Farm and Ranch in Broomfield, CO. They're a Spyderco dealer, too. The JAX website is https://www....

That is a very nice pattern. I'm sure it looks better in person. Chatoyance is really hard to photograph.
Interestingly enough, it doesn’t have any chatoyance. When I first saw it in the box I thought I saw flames, but nope, no 3D effect.

Wild Grain On An Opinel Handle

I’ve wanted to get an Opinel No 08 with a stainless blade for a while. A local brick & mortar store got a bunch of the 08’s in with the premium woods, oak, walnut, and olive. The salesman let me look them over and pick the one I wanted. I usually don’t go for light woods, but I do like figured wood,...

Re: We already have the solution. Now what we need is to find the problem

That was precisely my point. It gets dark here every now and then as well (or in Lisbon, London or Rome) and I never saw one using a EDC flashlight. And I also run out to get some groceries from time to time ... but I would never think of carrying a flashlight, nor do I know anyone who would. That'...

Re: We already have the solution. Now what we need is to find the problem

But here I've never carried one in my pocket (except when I'm camping) and I don't know anyone who carries it. But not only here. I have lived in a dozen European countries (including France, Germany, Italy, UK, Denmark, etc.) and I have also not seen people carry flashlights as part of their EDC. ...
