I think both CPM Cruwear and and Micarta have been somewhat underutilized by Spyderco, but they don’t necessarily need to go together. They could have just made regular production runs, rather than playing games with crucarta sprints. There is really no other reason to associate Cruwear and Micarta....

I am! It was a comment on how fickle we are. I do look forward to trying Rex45 but you can see that reputations hang on a thread in the frenzied world of the internet. I've never met a bad steel in a Spyderco or had trouble with chipping - even with zdp189 and S110v. Sorry to give everyone a scare....

Well put and agreed. Some people on this forum act like REX45 is garbage steel on here. Well I have a Native Chief that has still yet to need sharpening from EDC use Involving cutting branches and breaking down cardboard boxes. I am - again - surprised how relatively "bad" REX45/HAP 40 fares. Especially how really not spectacular its toughness actually is. Of course I don't doubt the results at all (!), but this is different to what - also experienced - knife users always tend to say and also different to my own...

What edge angles do people prefer for whittling? I reprofiled my Native 5 to 14 degrees per side, and I find it hard to change the direction of the cut, when whittling.

I would be surprised if Spyderco actually has a QC requirement for where the plunge line hits the spine.
