Re: BaliYo - Titanium edition?

As long as it’s a fully premium baliyo, absolutely. When I had mine (I’ve had two and managed to break both lol) I had problems with the pen opening mid flip and one of the arms fully came off on the first one. Like, let’s do it. But with an updated build. Parker refills (or something else standard...

Re: A (sorta) chef's 1 year review of the spydiechef.

Was your lockup at 100%? Otherwise how did you have up and down play on a properly designed framelock? I also have not heard of other peoples lockbar continuously wearing down like that. Im wondering if something was not right on yours. It’s possible something was wrong. It’s about a 75% lockup. Ob...

Re: A (sorta) chef's 1 year review of the spydiechef.

It is a grail knife for me. A micarta enveloped handle and LC200N with awesome ergonomics. I would get one if I were you. This is a newer version with a wood handle. Buy it now! https://www.amazon.com/ZWILLING-J-Henckels-31861-203/dp/B003H2344C I have my eye on a takamura hana atm... but this is al...

and the possibility of the return of the sage 2 When/where was the possible return of the Sage 2 mentioned? How did I miss that? Well I figured if they disco’d the sage 1, and re-released it with a new steel. I assume the rest of the line will follow. Maybe also in maxamet, maybe in other steels. L...

Re: A (sorta) chef's 1 year review of the spydiechef.

https://cdn.cutleryandmore.com/assets/product/main/25687.jpg I have been using this knife made from Cronidur 30 AKA LC200N for over 10 years. The steel is awesome for a chef knife. I can see that as a pure kitchen knife the Spidychef may not be as thin behind the edge to slice better but i agree wi...

A (sorta) chef's 1 year review of the spydiechef.

This is about to get long winded, but you should expect that from me at this point ;) About a year ago (Give or take a few days) I received my Spydiechef in the mail. I had been a Benchmade guy for a year or so at that point, but I had been screwed by their warranty for the last time. I was fed up. ...

Re: I should uh, probably get a Chaparral. Right?

Hey hey hey op fishy here I appreciate all of you sharing your experiences with the knife! I think I've decided what I want to do, A few of you mentioned that it's your favorite "small knife", for me that's the rhino. So I think I'm gonna buy a new one of those (since I long ago sold mine, and imme...

I should uh, probably get a Chaparral. Right?

I constantly consider buying a new spydie, and generally I look at my knife roll and reconsider... But this one? it's a stuck around. It seems like a perfect marriage of my two current favorites. The Native G10, and the Watu. simple, ergonomic, and solid like the Native, slicey and pocket friendly l...

Re: Manix 3

That mock up for #8 appears to be a Caribbean with a bbl. Although to actually answer your question, the lw needs screwed construction and better grip. That’s all I really would change. Would you want to change the shape of the grip or the texture? I'd be real interested in a CBBL caribbean :) well...

It will sell well as long as the steel is more premium than VG10 and construction will be screwed on, not pinned. (0.02¢) :)
If it ends up being lc200n with screwed construction I may end up buying two :)

I wish there were more integral comp locks like the salsa and the atr. The Slyz lineup would look good with integral comp locks :D

Re: Power Lock

It’s a similar concept to the Tri-Ad lock isn’t it? With an extra contact point for the blade tang? I think It’s slightly overkill though tbh. Maybe for an outdoorsy type knife it would be nice.

Re: Kitchen knife nerds- why basic carbons?

SG2/R2 is glorious. Preforms like xhp run super hard, and yet even though it’s usually at 62-64 hrc it still rarely chips. Wonderful wonderful wonderful. Edit: although to answer your initial question, I think it’s a tradition thing. One of my chefs swears by a few 40-60 year old french chefs knives...

Re: Wharncliffe's

Wharnys are wonderful! I’ll put in my two cents here saying it’s wonderful as a happy medium between tip strength and piercing ability. My experience is with the seki wharncliffes though, I hear the yonimbo’s tip is somewhat delicate.

Re: What steel balances attributes best?

I mean. Lc200n. However it depends. 3V is probably better for outdoorsy “knife abuse” sort of uses because of it’s extreme toughness, 20cv is probably a better edc steel since you don’t need a whole lot of toughness in everyday use and the extra edge retention is nice. Idk. It all depends on the use...
