Re: K390 Delica HRC?

(Re: HRC Database Postby EngDevGr3 » Tue Sep 01, 2020 8:06 pm I just got a Delica k390. The results were a bit surprising. It was poked twice, with the results of 66.4 and 66.5 HRC) I found this in the HRC Database thread. Thanks you, that's the info I was looking for. it seems like a test from the...

Re: K390 Delica HRC?

The only Seki K390 I know of that's been tested so far is the Police 4. Three different examples tested at 64.2, 65.2 and 65.5. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1OepNr_D4lqbdTFqdqWl1rmAd4bOzPzJe6J0iEWrdJGU/ I wonder if the new ones are the same, same factory so it might be similar levels, I w...

K390 Delica HRC?

Hi Sal and everyone, was just wondering what the HRC is running at on the new K390 line from Seki factory. I got a new Delica in K390 and me and a few people were trying to find out what the actual numbers were if you don't mind sharing specifics. I tried looking around but haven't found anything. C...

Re: Suggestion for changing Spyderco budget knife steel 8Cr13Mov

Hi Karl_H, Welcome to our forum. Hey Aaron, We used the Sandvik steel in the Grasshopper because we didn't want to use the 3Cr that the maker wanted to use. We felt that the Sandvik option would perform better than 3Cr. Frankly, I've not much luck in dealing with Sandvik. Many times discussions at ...

Re: Suggestion for changing Spyderco budget knife steel 8Cr13Mov

Hi Ez556, It seems that Eric has gotten the Tenacious maker to try new steels up to S90V. There is also another maker that has purchased a new heat treating oven with all of the bells and whistles so the future may offer more. Aaron, Why would you consider 14c28n an upgrade to 8cr13MoV? There is mo...

Re: S30v chipping on new knife after first use

I chipped the crap out of my S30V PM2 this week, I broke down some cardboard boxes for recycling and did some wood carving, checked the blade at the end of the day and it was riddled with chips all along the edge. Compared t my Endura in VG-10 the S30V chips like crazy, I've done the same tasks wit...

Re: Suggestion for changing Spyderco budget knife steel 8Cr13Mov

I understand the interest in using a steel domestic to the factory, makes total sense. I don’t think the whole product line needs to be changed, your average consumer doesn't even look at the knife steel or even know what it means, but if they picked 3 or 4 of the most popular Chinese models and ma...

Re: Suggestion for changing Spyderco budget knife steel 8Cr13Mov

Hi Aaron, Welcome to our forum. Were always looking at steels and makers. We've made some progress in Japan and China using imported steels. As Paul mentioned, using domestic steels will always be less expensive than using imported steels. And as "Notsure" mentioned, the market has not re...

Re: Suggestion for changing Spyderco budget knife steel 8Cr13Mov

You're missing two very important points. First is that, as Gigas pointed out, steel is heavy, so shipping it gets expensive so using a steel from the country where a given model is made for Spyderco helps keep the cost down. Second being that Spyderco uses a number of makers in China, so not all t...

Re: Suggestion for changing Spyderco budget knife steel 8Cr13Mov

I'm pretty sure Sal has said in the past that the polestar and alcyone were designed to see if the market would support better steel on the Chinese made knives. I don't think sales have been good enough for them to expand the effort. It might be the case they probably have all the sales projections...

Re: Suggestion for changing Spyderco budget knife steel 8Cr13Mov

Part of the cost effectiveness of making a knife in China is using Chinese made steel. Like how most seki models use Japanese steel... Shipping steel from Sweden to china for a run of grasshoppers is much different than shipping enough for tenacious, resistance.... That makes sense if the steel isn...

Suggestion for changing Spyderco budget knife steel 8Cr13Mov

Hi guys, I would just like to offer a suggestion for changing your steel choice on your budget knife models from 8Cr13Mov to Sandvik 14C28N. I have noticed a trend in the last couple of years of people being fed up with this steel. I know there is not a lot of difference in performance between the 2...

Re: FFG and ZDP Endura in SS handle?

I would absolutely buy an SS Endura with FFG ZDP. But I think we'd be in the minority. Still, all the parts already exist, maybe it is a possibility to have a small run! Hello fellow niche SS lover, I would really like a little sprint run of it. It doesn't even HAVE to be in zdp specifically, any S...

Re: FFG and ZDP Endura in SS handle?

..... That is all I really wanted to ask, would it be possible for you guys to consider making a sprint run or something for us SS handle lovers? a little ZDP, a little FFG Endura? .... Endura 4, in ZDP with FFG and SS handles. Is that perfection or just me being strange you decide. Second reply, n...

Re: FFG and ZDP Endura in SS handle?

Hi everybody at spyderco and all forum members, I have just ordered an Endura 4 in hollow/sabre grind with SS handles. This wasn't exactly the knife I wanted to buy, I realize I'm being very picky and I'm sorry about that, but I know what I like and I seem to be in the minority of spyderco fans. I ...
