Re: Lifespan of G-10?

No, corrosion of liners would not affect G10. One thing that I just think about is when you have linerless construction with washers directly on G10. That could maybe I dug some wear, but my Chief is still in perfect condition. If you don't throw your knife into fire, I don't think there is somethi...

Do you mean like texture getting worn? Yes, it will happend in some years, it will get smoother.
But other than that, it will not rot, or corrode, or dissolve, or shrink, or vanish....
I just mean wear, corrosion, etc. Anything that would “age” it basically.

Re: Lifespan of Backlocks?

I still have the Gerber Folding Sportsman II (with Flicket, for one-handed opening) that I carried from about 1976-1982. It is very well used, but still working fine. I have many others that date back to the early 1980's, but haven't been carried or used as much. They're also still going strong. St...

I have well-used backlocks from long before Sal was making knives, and they're just fine. When my Spyderco backlocks get that old, I'll let you know.
Wow, how many years is that?

Lifespan of Backlocks?

I was curious, what is the oldest backlock you own, and does it still work?

Re: DLT Trading Red/Black Zome Delica in 20CV

Just updating the thread. It is still in stock! Kind of surprised. It's only because of the zome handles. The Delica tends to sit a little longer than other exclusives too, but it's definitely the handles this time around. Yeah Id agree. Plus 20cv isnt really a new and exciting steel to see on the ...

Re: Count the eBay Flips of Seconds...

Ive complained about this to people on knifeswap on reddit, it seems no one wants to hear me out. I just think it is bullcrap that some people buy these factory seconds with full intentions of marking them up in price (or just decide they dont like them) and then resell them for $50 more than what ...

Re: Factory Seconds Sale Follow-up

A lot of people honestly do not know how the world works. The fact that you all at Golden did not just cancel the Factory Seconds Sale when you only had a week notice to go fully online, is a testament to how dedicated you guys are to making these types of events possible. The amount of dedication, ...

Re: Baby got BACK(lock)

i like backlocks on my lightweight salts (pacific, native, and dragonfly), but i'm not a huge fan otherwise. i much prefer the triad lock used by cold steel. none of my cold steel knives budge when open and all of my spyderco backlocks have at least a little wiggle. it's fine and they're plenty str...

Re: Baby got BACK(lock)

Many of us will agree on the points you make. However, it is important to remember that back locks and ball bearing locks also have springs that can fail. It might be unlikely, but it has happened to back locks over the years. Every design has weak spots, some are just more weak than others. My loc...

Baby got BACK(lock)

Over the course of my time buying and using knives, I have spent a lot of money and have spent a lot of time thinking about knives. I might be the odd one out here :p sarcasm Ive given a lot of thought to locking mechanisms. After using quite a lot I’ve realized a few things. - Most people do not ne...

There are cutlery steels that are roughly in the same ballpark as far as performance at an equivalent hardness of, say, 57 to 59 Rc,

Do we know what Spyderco’s VG-10 rockwell tests at?
Seen a few results around 58.
Ah that makes sense to why my vg-10 delica seems so indestructible haha

Re: Recs for Self Defense while running/biking?

I honestly would say, if you want a folding knife for SD, you should probably have an emerson wave feature on it. Unless you are absolutely certain that you will be able to deploy the knife quickly and with consistency, it can become a factor in a stressful scenario. Of course, a delica is going to ...

Re: Spyderco Standard Clip vs. Lynch vs. MXG Gear

Ive tried all 3 clips. Honestly, after I got past my “need” for deep carry, I really enjoy the Spyderco clips. Regardless or a deep clip or not, people are going to know you are carrying a knife if they see any kind of clip. The Spyderco clip allows for an easy grab, and slides into the pocket with ...
