Re: MagnaCut Fine Edge Retention
Yes it does keep the finer edge longer than other stainless steels. It behaves similar to mid-high carbide volume tool steels in fact. However, for some reason, it does not respond the strop as well as other steels. Do not get me wrong stropping still works on it but not as effective as other steel...

Re: Frankenstein titanium UKPK?
Perhaps it would be easier to transfer the scales to the new knife rather than the new blade to your existing knife. Also, I do not think the blades are sold seperately. So you will end up buying a new UKPK anyway. So why not just simply switch the scales rather than trying to transfer the blade fro...

Re: LC200N for mullet? Recommendation Needed
I am using both steels at regular basis. MagnaCut is in a custom made knife and LC200N is in my waterway and UKPK. Given your intendent use and sharpening equipment, I would say LC200N will be better for you. It is much tougher than MagnaCut and easier to sharpen and takes a finer edge easier. I str...

Its a Paysan, S90V Urban, and little knife with a scissor. I am quite happy with the content.

Re: Gotta rethink my hunting/gutting knife…S110V FAIL!
Finally got the time to reprofile and sharpen the chipped up S110V. The chips were ground out quite easily. I won’t be using this knife for any further game processing. I think it’s time to gain the courage to actually use my S90V Shaman for game cleaning purposes. I think it’s built for it. https:...

Re: Gotta rethink my hunting/gutting knife…S110V FAIL!
If that does not work, sharpen your knife to 20dps and put micro bevel at 25 dps. If that does not work, sharpen the knife to 25dps and put a microbevel at 30dps. At some point you should get an edge that will not chip. When you find that geometry which takes the abuse decide if the knife still cut...

Re: Gotta rethink my hunting/gutting knife…S110V FAIL!
I kinda built this Manix 2 for a hunting knife option to use in the field gutting and dressing game, especially deer. Well I finally got to use it when gutting a doe this morning. The blade zipped through the flesh with ease, but when it came time to cut thru the sternum we had a problem. I could h...

Re: Fully serrated H2 vs Magnacut
I do not have anything in H1 or H2 but I have a knife in MagnaCut with extremely thin geometry. While MagnaCut is a quite though steel for the carbide content it has, I would not recommend it for the type of task you have described. On the other hand, I have a few knives in LC200N, and that steel wo...

Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!
Is there a consensus about how to sharpen that thing? I remember KaseKnives suggesting stropping with high grid diamond lapping papers. While this might be good for maintaining the edge, I suspect it is not feasible to fix the chips or alter the secondary bevel angle.

Re: UKPK drop point vs leaf
I have both and prefer drop point over leaf shape. Both the leaf and drop point resides in my drawer and every time I need to use a knife, I instinctively grab the drop point. Before getting a drop point, I was using the leaf UKPK occasionally and I was favoring other slip joints I have for quick ta...

Re: Maxamet edge retention
15 dps would work on Maxamet. I am suing Z-Max (maxamet like steel) mule sharpened at 15dsp in the kitchen and it did not chip yet whereas 52100 paring knife (seems to be thinner tough) gets some small chips with the same use. I never had a problem with sharpening any steel (apart from soft stainles...

Re: Sprig Re-run
If it will be thin and hard, MagnaCut would win hands down. I opt for MagnaCut and K390. High vanadium tool steel is not a bad option as it is much easier to wash and wipe the blade during fish processing than to stop and sharpening. Fish scales and bones are not easy on edge, if the edge gets chipp...

Re: Sharpening a Mule
My Z-Wear mule went straight to sharpening jig that I have after a maker put a set of scales on it for me. It is a nice aggressive edge. Polished but not a mirror finish. Tried to whittle hair, but the edge just goes through the hair strand as soon it touched the edge.
