Re: A question for Sal regarding the Rockjumper

I will buy one this year, so I’d like that to not be the last time. I hope this design and its potential variations a lot of success. I do a lot of climbing, mostly in trees, and I think the Rockjumper is as perfectly suited to cutting and carry in that environment as it gets. I don’t really use rop...

Re: Tip of the hat Spydiewiki

Who edits Spydiewiki? I have found an error on this page. Let's see who else can spot it. https://www.spydiewiki.com/index.php?title=C244_Native_Chief There’s also a place that states it has skeletonized liners just below where it mentions the lack of liners. Little stuff like that aside, Spydiewik...

Re: A knife designed by the forum

Silly rant warning for this first part… I get the idea behind that camel saying, but my biology nerd self doesn’t jive with it. Camel’s are perfectly adapted to their environment, an incredibly successful group of animals both today and throughout their evolutionary history, and are just as efficien...

Re: Stretch XL discussion

Eric mentioning the Spyderco Pro Venator when discussing the XL Stretch gave me another fun design idea complete with a cool name inspired by a dinosaur (I know, I’m talking about Prehistoric stuff again 😅). It’s essentially just an XL Stretch or Larger Pro Venator with the classic drop point, but a...

Re: Random: General Spydie Chat

What are you personally waiting to see from Spyderco, that they have given no indication of entertaining? A knife designed in collaboration with this whole forum. Complete with a maker's mark to boot. I'm not talking about suggestions/requests to Sal and Eric. It wouldn't be easy but if we found th...

Re: Shot Show 2022 News & Updates

I know we've seen it before, but it's fun to see it again. I'm definitely picking one up now. I really like BD...

Re: Shot Show 2022 News & Updates

I saw that Wharncliffe Lil Native and all I could think was, when will we see the Hawkbill Lil Native? The second thing I thought was the Wharncliffe looks rad and I want one. Actually the first thing that went into my mind when I saw the curve of the wharncliffe's spine was that it reminded me of ...

Re: Shot Show 2022 News & Updates

Nice to see jimping on the Lil Native LW!! The lack thereof was a huge letdown on the G10 version. If only it had a boye dent... To each their own. I think jimping is entirely unnecessary on the Lil Native. I would be incredibly disappointed if every Lil Native model were to get jimping. It's inter...

i missed that the lil native lw is going to have a thinner blade stock. that's pretty sweet.
I thought I was just hallucinating, decided I was right, and then forgot to mention that…

Re: Shot Show 2022 News & Updates

For some reason, I just really warmed up to the lil native, especially the wharnie, slipjoint, and lightweight versions shown. Those three versions were like some boxing combo that I think have finally sent me to the dark side or something lmao. I think the rest of the new stuff looks really solid t...

Re: Model request : Pry-Byrd - specialised knife w/ blade for light prying

I'd rather see a secondary pry blade added to some models. Non-locking could work if the design was right. I actually like this too, so an initial suggestion in light of this is the Spyderco Clipitool. Either the Rescue or Standard versions depending on your preferences. https://www.spyderco.com/ca...

Re: Model request : Pry-Byrd - specialised knife w/ blade for light prying

From my experience and the testing I’ve seen, the tip of a knife using steel about as tough as CPM154 will handle some pretty sketchy prying into wood without snapping so long as the blade is ~1/8 inch thick ~1/4 behind the tip. However, it sounds like what you need is something that also has good e...

Re: Time for new models?

Hi Cl1ff, It's an interesting concept, but I don't think we would ever name a model the "Terror byrd". But I am always open to design suggestions. sal Haha, thanks! I’m sure it’s been said many times, but I can’t help but feel flattered and grateful that you’re so open and engaging. I can...

Re: Time for new models?

I agree there’s a lot from Byrd I’d like to see! I was won over the instant I learned the designs are great (way better than most anything Civivi and the like put out imo) and the history of the Byrd name/prehistoric marketing. The old Byrd dinosaur marketing is more significant than most might real...

Re: Favorite Unique Spyderco Knife

That’s way too hard and i haven’t owned many unique Spydercos. I’ll limit it to just what I’ve used, so the Spyderco ClipiTool serrated version. It is weirdly good. If I otherwise don’t limit my choices, I’d never be able to choose. I like recurves and fixed blades, so those two things already make ...

Re: Astute Poll

I wouldn’t complain with any of that. I think the Astute is a really good design, but like has already been said, models just don’t switch between makers so there’s no point in voting for the Taichung version.
The lightweights, steel upgrades, and XL version I’m all for.

Re: 2022 Reveal — Stovepipe Thread C260TIP

I love this, even if i cant stop imagining a Breeden Rescue dipped in robot sauce . I will sell knives to fund this if only to support the absence of a lanyard hole. Thank [insert faith] that the clip is straight down the handle, i lose sleep over the skewed clips that cowtow to lanyard gapes. You ...

Re: webfoot v golden stone

I just found a Bladeforums thread from 2013 discussing the Byrd Duckfoot where Sal mentions the long term plan was to introduce it as a Spyderco product that’ll pair with the GoldenStone. It was a diamond abrasive, but I bet that’s what the Webfoot evolved from (I really like the old dinosaur brandi...
