Re: Unintended usage?

This is gonna gross out many of you & is probably very unsafe, but I have used my Yojimbo to shave down the callouses on my feet (life-long runner here). And no, I don't use the same knife for food prep LOL

Re: Cat vs. Sage 5 LW

I'm a huge fan of the Cat... I think it's the best budget-line Spyderco (outside of the Byrd knives, which I think are a great entry-level deal—I'd buy a Cara Cara or a Harrier over a Tenacious every day). But pound-for-pound and dollar-for-dollar, I think the Sage 5 LW is the best value offering in...

Re: Spyderco Forum Engagement Down

I think all the kids are on Discord now. Whatever that is LOL (I just vaguely know about Discord peripherally from the young people at my workplace... I think it's like a forum, but sort of integrated with social media & SMS/VoIP phone functions? I'm not that old, but I'm definitely a '90's guy,...

Re: Para 3 CPM-S45VN Question

Based on current charts, S30V should hold an edge better. S45V should be more stain resistant. I have the latter on order because a good price came up but would actually have preferred the former. .. By way of example, you can sharpen your S45VN Para 3 to, say, 15° per side, which will probably hol...

Re: Para 3 CPM-S45VN Question

Good point! But as said, I think a non-steel-expert like me probably won´t feel a difference between S30V and S45VN in a folding knife in my usual day to day use... (like if I did a blind test with the two steels in two exact same models) Oh yeah, in actual practice I don't really notice any major ...

Re: Thorough - Multi-Tool Face Off

Skeletool CX : The multitool I EDC. Its 154CM blade is one of the best I've used in a multitool. To be honest, I could probably ditch my Spydercos & just carry this everyday & be perfectly fine. Skeletool was a game changer for me, I carried it exclusively for years. It was just light enoug...

One additional advantage of S45VN is that it is slightly tougher than S30V (though not to the degree t...

Re: What's missing from the Salt line

I'd love to see a production Rock Salt in LC200N. I missed out on the original H1 Rock Salt & Rock Salt sprint, but I do have a Rock in VG-10 & it's one of my favourite fixed-blades for outdoors use. The toughness & corrosion resistance upgrade conferred by an LC200N blade would just put...

Re: How "In Shape" are You?

Also, many young people who are heavily into fitness do not realize that the body changes as you age, and that they, too, will change. Add to that less time/more responsibilities, evolving/changing interests and motivations, possible chronic injuries, etc., etc. A person can still be fit as they ag...

Re: New Knife Steel Ratings by Knife Steel Nerds

Interesting.  I thought S45VN was supposed to have an advantage in toughness over S30V, but this chart shows them both rating a 4 in toughness. I’m sure that actual use in various blades/grinds, heat treats, etc., will yield results that differ from the chart to varying degrees. Jim I think the rat...

Re: New Knife Steel Ratings by Knife Steel Nerds

And: LC200N: Amazed by its very high toughness!! Very cool. On the flipside I wonder again how pretty often I heard something along the lines that LC200Ns edge retention would be "between VG10 and S30V", when in fact its below VG10 and even BD1N according to the data (this is also my - to...

Re: New Knife Steel Ratings by Knife Steel Nerds

What actually surprised me was how well 8Cr13MoV faired. It gets so much crap talked about it but it holds an edge so much better than many HC steels and is definitely more corrosion resistant. And, in the Spyderco lineup, it's very affordable. I think otherwise decent, affordable steels like AUS-8...

Is anyone using the Spyderco App here? I tried to install it to not miss the next mule, putting all the chances on myu side ! However, I can't access the catalog, everytime it just says no products. I haven't used the app in a while but yeah, I just noticed the catalog is blank on the app right now

Re: New Knife Steel Ratings by Knife Steel Nerds

Great article, the ratings charts are a very handy quick-reference guide. And it definitely gives me a lot of food for thought when I consider the cost of knives—am I paying for the steel's potential performance? The assurance of a company who does a consistently good heat treat? The knife's overall...

Re: What's missing from the Salt line

Because for the last 8 to 10 years I've suggested that Spyderco bring back one of their most loved, "in house" fixed blade models specifically for the Salt Series. The original FB-05 TEMPERANCE 1 model that was one of the very few Spyderco fixed blade models that was offered in PE & S...

Re: Thorough - Multi-Tool Face Off

I've carried a pliers-based multitool to work for close to a decade now. I regularly used the pliers & wire-cutters at my previous job & even though I don't use them as much now in my current job, I still carry one by force of habit. I've owned a number of Leatherman tools over the years, bu...

If you HAD to choose... What would be the next knife to LEAVE your collection? Selling, gifting, trading, throwing away, whatever...which one is the next to go? Oooh, that's a tough one since I've already trimmed my collection down to my favourites. It would probably be my DF2 V-Toku2 sprint, since...

Re: Which knife later grew on you?

The Para Military 2. I was almost exclusively into backlocks when I started getting into Spyderco and didn't think the PM2 offered anything above & beyond what I was getting from my Natives, Delicas, & Enduras. I found a blacked-out version some years later selling for relatively cheap at a ...

Re: Spyderco Reveal Update

Thanks for the update! One thing I really liked about the previous Reveal process was that it helped me budget for near-future knife purchases. But one thing I didn't like about it—and this is really as much about me as the process—is that it always had me looking forward, instead of enjoying what I...
