Great thread folks. Spyderco should be proud they have a product that can inspire a thread like this.

I thought I heard Eric say it's a sprint. One that I'll have to try darn it.

I have the FRN, but I have a hunch if you polish this G10 it would be gorgeous.

Re: New Discoveries found in 8Cr13MoV testing

I found this fascinating like the rest of you. My guess is that the carbide banding can vary greatly from blade to blade, thereby affecting perceived performance. One person may get the banding close to the edge while someone else's blade may have it far from the edge. Anecdotal reports would vary s...

Re: What makes a steel 'aggressive'?

I had started a reply last night and thought better of it. I would agree with Bolster that Dr. Thomas seems to address lateral stresses pretty well in Knife Engineering with the descriptions and testing of toughness and fracturing of various steels. The charpy tests sure seems to test lateral toughn...

Re: Chasing Ghosts: The effect of edge aggression between steels.

Great test! I love the cherry tomato as a testing medium but do acknowledge that any product of nature will have variance. I wonder if we could pool our collective experience regarding other materials that have shown similar properties of causing highly polished edges to "skate" to come up...

Re: Emphasis Upgrade?

This is the knife that infected me with the Spyderco virus. I gave mine away after lots of use and hope the person I gave it to found it as useful. I recently re-purchased one due to being sentimental. It's still a great knife. Before there being higher end steels, I'd rather see it go on a weight l...

Re: What would be the odds?

It doesn't have the nice contouring of the Shaman. Actually not sure anything does. General size and stoutness is similar but that's about it in my opinion.

Re: WHERE’S THE BEEF??? And the UKPK Wharncliffe to slice it!!!!

Wharnie UKPK and Chapparall has been suggested numerous times. I think Mushroom is correct that they just discontinued a bunch including the RJ. I don't see them making more unless as a dealer requested sprint. Marius, I hope you're right it's just the SE, but I thought it was most of the Wharnie mo...

Re: Decision time what to purchase, don’t say by both

I think it comes down to hand size. I have medium to medium small hands. While I've never held the XL it has no appeal to me and the regular sized one is perfect. Vivi, Giant, some others think the regular sized is actually mini-sized.

That Raven has thick blade stock similar to the Shaman too. Definitely isn't afraid to work hard.
