Re: Community Sharpening Journal
I really recommend a leather belt for "power stropping". My first edge doing that actually scared me. You do have to be careful not to strop your edge away though. It will look great but won't cut. A light touch and the belt shouldn't be too slack. Full disclosure, I've not tried it with a...

Re: Rock Jumper comparison thread + general info
This is good news. Now it's up to us to make it one of the more popular models then. I'll take possession of mine tomorrow and am excited to try it out. But yeah, the RockSalt would be a great alternative for those who like the Caribbean but want a backlock.

Thanks for this thread. I ordered the same knife on Amazon when I saw what a good deal it was. I'll be on the look out.

Re: Rock Jumper comparison thread + general info
I can just see this selling like crazy, especially in sprint runs with different steels and colors. But I want the RockSalt version in LC200N and the green scales!

Re: S90V and S125V – History and Properties
Yes perfect timing Larrin! Really sounds like this is a good knife steel. I'm guessing the manufacturing costs associated with the grinding and polishing make other options more attractive for companies. Again, thanks Spyderco for taking on the tough jobs for us knife nerds!

Re: A sharpness story
I actually like to sharpen my kitchen knives, but then when they're used on a plate.... argh! And then see the flat spots caused on the blade, I figure why bother.

Re: Fully serrated Stretch
Yes sorry for your loss. While the search for a replacement continues (or until Sal does a SE of the Stretch 2) the Endela SE is of similar size or as soon as the Rockjumper SE comes out, maybe that will fill the void for awhile.

Thanks for these great pics. You made the benefit of the handle design really clear. We'll see how the Rockjumper compares when those come in.

Re: New Double Sided CBN Benchstone
I posted on the video Shawn but will post here as well. Thanks so much for doing this. I didn't realize how thin the stone is (not that it affects effectiveness mind you but good to know). And as one of the chronically heavy handed sharpeners out there, I need the constant reminders that less pressu...

Re: Ball Bearing lock redux?
I have appreciation for the locking mechanism on the Sage 3 (Blackie Collins design) but it really doesn't feel the same as the captive ball bearing lock, there's a roughness to it that I think is inherent in the design (it's basically a round bar moving into the slot in the blade). I think the BBL ...

Re: Ball Bearing lock redux?
Hmmmm yeah you're probably right about the thickness of the Chap, and a smaller ball in the lock would make it very difficult for folks with sausages for fingers to operate. Ah well it was a fun thought excercise.

Ball Bearing lock redux?
The inspiration for this is JuPaul's thread having to do with finding a small non-back lock Spidey for her husband. Got me thinking. I like different locking mechanisms. I like smaller and light weight knives as well. One of my favorite "office" knives (back when I actually went into the o...

Re: Stretched Stretch - continued from Straight spine thread
Oh boy I missed this thread the first time. Love the Stretch 2. I might be interested in this Xtended Stretch depending on how faithful the handle ergos are. If the handle isn't *that* much bigger than the Stretch 2 I can see myself getting one. I'd also vote for the drop point blade. Or at least on...

Re: flipper recommendation
Thanks everyone. I've looked at the Domino and the Sliverax on line a lot and they do intrigue me. I had an Efficient for awhile that I loved before getting into the better steels and I believe the design was heavily influenced by the Sliverax. My one concern with the Domino is the pocket space a wi...
