Re: Böhler K888 Matrix Steel
I am not a steel expert at all, but as an Austrian always proud when Böhler (Austrian company) is mentioned and produces good stuff! :smlling-eyes (For those (few..?) who might not know (some Americans actually do not): Austria is NOT AustrALia... ;) ) Being half Austrian, I approve this message 😄

Re: Böhler K888 Matrix Steel
I have had such excellent luck using my Bohler M390 blade on my Spyderco C-36 Military model as my primary EDC for quite some time now. I find Bohler's M390 to be nearly a perfect steel for most everyday cutting jobs. It sharpens up really nicely and maintains a working edge for quite a while. If t...

Re: Böhler K888 Matrix Steel
After reviewing the Bohler link above, am I wrong in assuming this is a high-toughness, low-CATRA steel? Bohler only gives 2/5 stars for wear resistance. Doesn't have loads of carbon or vanadium. Regards the kknives_switzerland link, is the comparison made with Z-Tuff actually comparing apples to a...

Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!
I've been away for a while because I have an increasing work load with my main business, which is making steel custom knives. While I was away, some people have asked me via email/Instagram if Rahven and KKnives_Switzerland are the same company. No, we are not the same company. I did knife related c...

Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!
Roman, if this material can be injection molded, can you make an integral knife that could not only make it stronger but be seamless for ease of cleaning? Or perhaps a blade and bolster? Something like this knife that is my favorite chef knife? https://cdn.cutleryandmore.com/products/large/25686.jp...

Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!
If these diamond epoxy things work, would a super vitrified diamond stone work as well? https://www.triplebhandmade.com/shop/5000-grit-vitrified-diamond-waterstone Didn't work well for me - though I used old prototype ones from practical sharpening which he sent me in 2019. They were softer than th...

Quick reply regarding sharpening in the picture below. I shared this on my instagram and due to timely limitations, I just paste it here. Let me know if you have any questions.

Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!
New materials requires a new understanding and we need to be students to understand the materials to make them work for us and not try to make it conform to what our preconceive notion‘s are. I feel this guy did not treat as such. This new material will not be for everybody but I appreciate you put...

Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!
https://youtu.be/exIBjSDAhYc Roman, please reach out to this guy. He made me cringe when he attempted to sharpen it before testing it. He for sure needs to research what he has before he messes with it and makes a review and potentially turn people off. I had a conversation with him in my comments ...

Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!
I have a barracuda? I believe the model is called. I enjoy the knife. It is different. I am used to 10 degree edges in kitchen knives though. Roman, do you think it is possible to even strop the HIC knives back to sharp. Or possibly touch up on a strop to maintain the edge? Yes! It works well! (Wit...

We - currently - ship them ~17dps convex. However, I found a way for making an extremely sharp V-edge and currently comparing 15 and 17dps.bbturbodad wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 1:50 pmIs there a suggested optimal angle to sharpen these blades? What angle do they come ground?

Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!
Roman have you done a video specifically on sharpening this material? If you haven't you probably should. I'm going to mess around with the Worksharp guided sharpener and diamond lapping films today. Not yet, since I wanted to gather more data, which I soon will have completed. Regarding the abrasi...

Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!
I haven't tried sharpening, but I noticed that the HIC feels 'less sharp' to my finger than any steel blade. It still seems to be plenty sharp when I cut stuff with it though. It's almost as if it's deceiving my normal 'finger tests' for sharpness. I noticed the same. Personally, I blame this on th...

Re: Elastic Ceramic mule interest poll
I like the idea of new steels, but there's something awesome about it being steel. I'd love to test it, but drop it once and there's no more testing. Try and sharpen it. It'll never be like new in my experience. I know that this High Impact Ceramic is trying to solve some of this, but it's still no...

Gathering more and more data about sharpening. CBN really is a promising candidate.
