Sadly, I got no picture of the particular blade, since it was just a scrap. But here is a link to the typical type of knife I make:

Whittling a hair under a microscope!
Hi all!
Recently, I visited my good friend Dr. Marvin Groeb who oversees the analysis instruments amongst other things at Kern Microtechnic.
There, I was able to use their Leica microscope to whittle a human hair under magnification, the knife is one of my custom blades in M398, at 65 HRC, 3 cryo ...

That would be really cool.weeping minora wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2025 12:53 amThis happened quite quickly. I'd like to see this Mule get a release sometime late this year, or early next, if all works out.

Thanks for having me.
That sounds exciting.

Re: Nitro-X7 steel
Who is this steel from?
If I'm not mistaken, I thought Nitro V was exclusively from New Jersey Steel Baron, so I figured this might be from them as well and took a look at their website. I didn't find anything there though.
It's currently German only, but maybe still of use:

Re: Nitro-X7 steel
For those that have some extra time(couple hours) or a boring job you should check out these videos on Survival sharpening and edge retention done by The Home Slice. While the knives used are different designs it shows an area where Nitro V excels when compared to basic and "super" steels. Makes ...

Re: Nitro-X7 steel
Hello everyone
I saw this threat just now. Like others have correctly pointed out, if one wants maximum edge retention, there are better options. That being said, I was very surprised to see Nitro-X7 hold its ground against some PM grades in the video I posted on Youtube. While the majority of the ...

Re: Böhler K888 Matrix Steel
I am not a steel expert at all, but as an Austrian always proud when Böhler (Austrian company) is mentioned and produces good stuff! :smlling-eyes
(For those (few..?) who might not know (some Americans actually do not): Austria is NOT AustrALia... ;) )
Being half Austrian, I approve this ...

Re: Böhler K888 Matrix Steel
I have had such excellent luck using my Bohler M390 blade on my Spyderco C-36 Military model as my primary EDC for quite some time now. I find Bohler's M390 to be nearly a perfect steel for most everyday cutting jobs. It sharpens up really nicely and maintains a working edge for quite a while ...

Re: Böhler K888 Matrix Steel
After reviewing the Bohler link above, am I wrong in assuming this is a high-toughness, low-CATRA steel? Bohler only gives 2/5 stars for wear resistance. Doesn't have loads of carbon or vanadium. Regards the kknives_switzerland link, is the comparison made with Z-Tuff actually comparing apples to ...

Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!
Roman, if this material can be injection molded, can you make an integral knife that could not only make it stronger but be seamless for ease of cleaning? Or perhaps a blade and bolster? Something like this knife that is my favorite chef knife?

If these diamond epoxy things work, would a super vitrified diamond stone work as well?

New materials requires a new understanding and we need to be students to understand the materials to make them work for us and not try to make it conform to what our preconceive notion‘s are. I feel this guy did not treat as such. This new material will not be for everybody but I appreciate you ...

please reach out to this guy.
He made me cringe when he attempted to sharpen it before testing it.
He for sure needs to research what he has before he messes with it and makes a review and potentially turn people off.
I had a conversation with him in my ...
Thanks for your efforts in getting this thing to market. I hope you stay involved in some way.
