Re: Interesting discussion on a bleeding blade

When does the conversation get interesting? I read through the first page, and then gave up.

I did learn a little though. I understand a bit better now about why mods are needed on forums. Sheesh.

Re: Very late lockup?

Most frame lock Spydercos that I have encountered have a late-ish lock up, just like this. I see no problem with it. In fact, I prefer it over the super early engagement that is made out to be so desirable. People like to claim that the lock bar will walk all the way over to the other side eventuall...

Re: Getting an unpainted pocket clip

I purchased, via phone call, a handful of the polished/shiny clips a couple of years ago. Few bucks each, plus shipping.

I've bought several items, knives included, from eCop. I've always been satisfied. It has been some time now though since I ordered from them. Maybe something changed recently? New management?

I'm in.

I've made one knife handle myself, and have another Mule waiting for when I get time. It would be interesring to see how somebody else went about it.

Re: MAP pricing policy favors amazon. Bad for vendors (that are not Amazon) and consumers.

not all customers are 'moral' enough to choose to pay extra to support small businesses, instead of being wise spenders of their hard earned money and choose the best deals for their buck. If we were wise spenders we wouldn't be buying dozens of expensive unnecessary knives. Outside of a few models...

Re: MAP pricing policy favors amazon. Bad for vendors (that are not Amazon) and consumers.

Unlike the OP, many of us have morals. I will gladly spend a few extra bucks to support a business that is real part of our community. And if there were still a decent brick & mortar anywhere near here, I'd spend a few more yet bucks to keep it local. There used to be really cool knife dealer in...

Re: Guided angle sharpening systems with FFG spyderco blades?

The Lansky can be clamped onto FFG blades. Rather than the two pieces of the device being parallel, you can spread the one end out so that the whole thing tapers and follows the flats of the blade.... if that makes sense. However, the numbered slots will now be at different position relative to a st...

Not quite sure if it's what you're after, but if you have access bead/sand blaster it will take the shine off. And I guess it sort of "greys" it to a small degree.

Re: How Do Your Factory Seconds Look?

Para3 Maxamet showed up today. Blade is very slightly warped to the show side making it appear just a tiny bit off center. The bend is practically unnoticable unless you eye ball straight down the spine. Even then, it is subtle. All this is pretty much a non-issue. The action is very stiff though. I...

Re: End of 2020 Opinions on VG-10

VG10 is good in my book. S30V is great. IMO, anything beyond that is overkill for the vast majority of us. But it sure is neat experiencing some of the upper tiers of metallurgy. My favorite attribute of vg10 is probably its ease of sharpening. Its a breeze to bring back to screaming sharp. After ge...

Re: Your ideas for the future of the seconds sale?

I would keep it the way it has been for years (most recent event not included). The in person sale is an experience, not just another frenzied online drop. We dont really need any more of those. And no, I am not local. It takes considerable commitment for me to travel to Colorado. Same is true for m...

Re: Direction and Magnitude!

Would be nice if I could get some spacers to take up the space in the pockets. Glue them in with some weak adhesive, give the pivot more stability. Kind of like the Hinderer tri-way design. Down the rabbit hole I go! On my XM is used the provided spacers, but installed by own oversized (OD) washers...

Re: Direction and Magnitude!

Do you have a tutorial on how to swap the bearings? Specs on the washers and source? I am interested! I've done this on many knives, not just Spydercos. Its pretty easy. Now, it seems to me that many people think you need some sort of super thick washer to fill the bearing pocket. Not true. Just ge...

Re: 2020 Seconds Sale - BREAKING NEWS

Good grief. Entitled much? Many people, for one reason or another, cannot make a cross country trip to Golden for a knife sale. Meanwhile, there are a bunch of us that are willing make some sacrifices to make it happen. And yet, some Spyderco fans are lucky enough to live right down the road from SF...

Re: Direction and Magnitude!

I like mine. Got it in a trade a while back. Its a pretty sweet knife. Fit and finish is second to none. Chunky, but thats OK in my book. The CF scales are beautiful. To avoid that cupping business I converted mine to PB washers, along with my other ultra thin bearing race models. I feel bearings ar...

Re: 2020 Seconds Sale - BREAKING NEWS

I think I'll sit this one out.

Taking a few days off work, driving halfway across the country, and meeting cool people is all a part of the great Spyderco experience.

Simply buying knives online? I can do that any ole time I please.

Re: Delica tip shape Bother anyone else?

I think it looks good on saber ground models, but kind of odd on a flat ground blade. A guy could flatten out the spine he wanted. I once made a straight spine Caly3.5 with just an angle grinder, some sand paper, and a bit of patience.
