Re: Your favorite sprint/exclusive released after join-date PLUS BONUS QUESTION

About half of my spydies were sprints when I joined early this summer, and maybe a little over half now. The forum introduced me to some of the smaller dealers and their exclusives. My favorite sprint/exclusive since joining has been the cruwear manix (now that I've got micarta scales for it and rea...

Re: Micarta Shaman 2nd Sprint Run

Steelcity16 - I know you feel very strongly about micarta and tougher steel combos (we should call you 3vsteelcity16 at this point :D ) - but I'm really not sure in the grand scheme of things how popular they really are - especially outside of forums like this on I also noticed how collectors are a...

Re: Micarta Shaman 2nd Sprint Run

By the way, since the Shaman has already been produced with two of the steels tested in this video by Michael Christy, it might be useful and thought provoking to revisit his take on the differences in toughness observed in a short test conducted on blades with 4V, M4 and S90V: https://youtu.be/GgD...

You could always just get your blade coated and buy custom scales. It'd be pricey but you would have a one of a kind knife. :)
True enough, but it'd be so much easier and cheaper if some dealer would just make it for me! ;) :D

Re: Micarta Shaman 2nd Sprint Run

In summary people don't want what they need, they want the object that reflects their perceived needs. People thought the base shaman was average (s30v is probably fine in most applications) - but the cru-carta is basically the Wrangler unlimited - people like the idea that their jeep has locking d...

Re: Why no more FDE coating?

Eww. No thank you. I would be interested in more abstract colors. To me, this blade screams "stolen valor". It would go great with a set of fatigues from your local surplus store... if that's what you're into. XD Now, if they were to make a gaudy purple one or maybe a solid white one, I would be a ...

Re: Micarta Shaman 2nd Sprint Run

So, you think the spyderco used cruwear and not cpm cruwear for the mule? yes, mule is not cpm. As was explained to me: the mule was ingot Cruwear. CPM Cruwear is chemically the same steel, but goes through the cpm (crucible's particle metallurgy) process, which improves its performance significant...

Re: Para3 LW in m390.. First LW exclusive

I have had my m390 lw p3 for a week now and I really love this version a lot but it has to be the most slippery frn knife I have owned. I’ve dropped it 3 times while trying to close it. I probably wouldn’t have this problem if I wasn’t a lefty and had to switch the clip but I think the solution is ...

PVD is a type of process. DLC can be applied using the PVD process. It's not two different things. PVD is a process used to apply DLC. More info here: https://www.razoredgeknives.com/services-fees/dlc/ DLC can be done in various colors, as well. More info also here: https://www.ionbond.com/technolo...

I know you're one for the VERY lucky ones to get your hands on both!! Man, I do feel so, so lucky to have those two! For a hefty outdoor folder, both the 4v an...

Re: Why no more FDE coating?

Curious about this as well, and really like the looks of it. Is it harder to coat than dlc and does it hold up as well? Me too, always wondered about this coating during use...but with the Para 3 version catching INSANE amounts of money on Ebay, something tells me that knife is a safe queen. I'm ye...

What makes you think there won’t be a REC PM2 in this configuration? It is my understanding that this is a near certainty to have been ordered as an exclusive. If it hasn’t been ordered yet, I’d be flabbergasted! ;)
I hope there is! I hadn't heard about it. But I also want more!

Re: Your "return ethics"?

I have returned flawed knives to a dealer in the past, and was clear about the reason for return. But I haven't done that with spyderco knives. I've always sent them straight to spyderco. Just seems easier to me - go straight to the source - even if it means waiting a few weeks for turnaround. As fo...
