Any well worn knives?

I love my PM2 and my Dragonfly. These guys are my everyday work loadout. At least one of them has been in my pocket every single day since I got them, and they show it. I love it though because it makes them truly mine. We see pristine knives on here every day, who has some knives that have some sca...

Re: The Wire Clip: express your love, hate, indifference

Small or very lightweight knives = wire clip Large and heavier knives = hourglass clip or equivalent I love the wire clip but it just doesn't suit larger heavier knives, it doesn't clip strong enough and doesn't provide enough traction. It's absolutely perfect for knives like the Dragonfly though. ...

Re: Boye Dents on Backlocks? Yes or No?

I voted yes simply because to me it makes the edges of the lockbar feel less "sharp" when using the lock. Still, I realize this may have more to do with spring tension and either way it wouldn't be a make or break on any knife I'd buy.

Re: Help convince me that FRN handles are better than they look..

If you want to be sold on FRN, buy a Chap LW, or one of the LW maxamet knives (Native or Manix 2). The Manix 2 LW was the one that really sold me on those "cheap plastic" handles. I was honestly very surprised at how much I liked it. At this point, I prefer them to stock G-10. There are s...

This is the only model I appreciate the compression lock in. Otherwise I I could live without the finger pinching dam* comp/lock. ;)
What is this? Never seen this before.

Also, can anyone confirm that the H1 Dragonflies have H1 hardware? I just assumed it was treated in some way and/or coated.

Concur. Dfly Salt wire clip is magnetic. Pac Salt and Spyderhawk Salt clips are non-magnetic. Native Salt is magnetic. All my non-salts are magnetic.
This is an interesting conundrum.

Re: Native 5 salt

We were discussing the Native 5 Salt (Golden built). My sample has a steel clip. Vivi and Darby have pointed out that many Seki built Salts, like yours have Ti clips. I don't expect any of them to rust. It's steel... tested by magnet. I also thought the clips on Salts were titanium. Can somebody wi...

Re: FRN Grittiness

A couple things I do to my linerless FRN knives is take out the blade and polish the tang (H1 polishes so easily) and then take some fine sandpaper and knock down all the sharp edges along the inner edge of the handle to make sure there aren't any hard edges to rub the blade during motion. Then I p...

Re: Which steel "spoiled" you?

For me definitely H1/LC, for being maintenance free and so easy to sharpen. +1 for H1. I just got my first Spydie (that happens to be in H1) a few weeks ago and even though it has relatively low edge retention vs. modern supersteels, it still held up beyond anything I had ever seen before. Add it b...

Re: FRN Grittiness

What type of stuff are you cutting? With my Dragonfly I only end up cutting the odd strap or cutting some plastic wrap on a pallet of building material, but I work with a lot of concrete so the particles of cement dust end up getting into my pocket one way or another and that's where most of the gr...

PM2 Blade Angle

I just noticed something on my PM2 that I think is an astounding little detail that I've never seen anyone talk about before. The angle of the blade along the axis that it pivots is slightly forward from what I expected, to the point that if I was holding the knife what I'd consider straight up and ...

FRN Grittiness

Every time I take my FRN Dragonfly Salt to work, it ends up getting a bunch of grit in the pivot that leads me to take it to bits almost every day to clean it. It isn't so bad as to significantly worsen the action or anything, it's just more of an annoyance that doesn't happen with my PM2 that I rec...

Re: Future of H1?

It really would be a shame to see H1 disappear. My Dragonfly Salt has lasted through staple pulling, cutting through a metal seal, and cutting down a couple saplings when I couldn't find my shears, plus about two weeks of heavy EDC work all without needing to be sharpened once. Add in being rustproo...

Re: H1 Edge Test

Update: So far from yesterday and today, I carved some more, cut up some packages, and stripped some wire. While the edge is still sharp, it is indeed getting that "glassy" feeling, losing its aggression, but still very sharp. It almost feels better at cutting things like paper or those bl...

Re: H1 Edge Test

In my experience PE H1 seems to performs best with a coarse edge. I’ve used my Tasman PE HB for quite a while now gilling and cleaning fish with an edge straight off SharpMaker diamond rods, no micro bevel and find (when I remember to) it responds well to stropping on stiff leather and chrome oxide...
