Re: Compendium of tips for sharpening serrated knives

Nice to see we have interest here. I for one, would buy a grinder shaped for my specific knife, if this is how the serrations are made. I mean, you have all these sharpening tips & tricks in this thread, but you'll never get even close to initial sharpness of all segments of the blade, you only get ...

Re: Compendium of tips for sharpening serrated knives

I'm casually scrolling through this thread, and wondering:
Do we know how is the factory edge on SE knives made?
Are those diamond plates already shaped as the spyderedge?
I really would like to see this in a video.

Re: Affordable Alternatives to 8CR13MOV

One of the greatest things, if not the greatest thing about this forum is that Spyderco sees and responds to our opinions. This is why I made this thread. Not to say 14C28N is the only better( and affordable) alternative to 8CR13MOV, but to simply get a conversation goin on peoples opinion on what ...

Re: Affordable Alternatives to 8CR13MOV

If I remeber correctly, previously Sal advised that chinese factories work with only certain steels.
This is why you will not get upgraded steels (i.e. BD1N, with which steel some factories already started working with) for a specific model in the lineup (this particulary adresses to byrd knives).

Thank you Doc.
Well, that's it, Urban is ordered :)
When the factory decides to put jimping and a wire clip on Lil' Native BL, that's next :D

Re: Dragonfly 2 vs Urban

It’s possible, but it still has a kick. The kick acts as a small finger guard, sort of, besides keeping the blade off the lock bar. It’s been too long since I’ve had mine apart, however. Doc, if you have both Urban and Lil Native BL, could you take a couple of pics side by side (length, height, thi...

Re: Dragonfly 2 vs Urban

Let’s just say I had this problem with my first Urban, now I have three in different steels (that’s what my/your can-do attitude leads to ;)). My extended comments are really meant to goose some needed CQI. I don't think this will happen overnight. As I recall, DF2 has this issue also in FRN. This ...

Re: Dragonfly 2 vs Urban

You may discover, as others here have, myself included, the delights of the spinning pivot. This phenomenon arises when trying to correct horizontal blade-play. There is no sweet spot for this correction. Overtightening can occur and lead inadvertently to deformation of the D-shaped pivot hole in t...

Re: Dragonfly 2 vs Urban

They blew it with the first batch of N690Co Urbans but now the problem is solved. Perfect half stop at 90 degrees. Go buy an Urban and don't look back.I own 7 Urbans in different steels and I'm a happy camper. The best folding pocket spydie with a < 2.5 inch blade. As I'm buying from White Mountain ...

Started with the DF2, but now prefer the Urban (in spite of a flawed choice of pivot screws). Apart from its better fit in my hand, I like slippies as an option.
Please do elaborate on the pivot screw.

Re: Dragonfly 2 vs Urban

One question for the recent owners of Urban: does the blade have a half stop (like Pingo)? I remember some videos I was watching previously mentioning that the mid stop is at 90% closed, some at 50% closed. I can only assume that the mid stop position was changed from 90 to 50% in later production.

Re: Dragonfly 2 vs Urban

Sure! (Though I´d say it´s "just" around 50 % "heart", and 50 % practical aspects that each of us came to like or not in the course of our respective "knife journeys" :) ) But just out of couriousity: I am not sure what you mean by "horn at the end of the blade"? Looking at my Chap it has a more or...

Re: Dragonfly 2 vs Urban

On N690 (btw. an Austrian, my homecountry, product :) ): I have a fixed blade in this steel (Enzo Trapper ffg): I´d say it holds an edge at least as good as any VG10 knife I own On your choice: Maybe also consider the Chaparral. Just slightly larger than the Urban, rides a bit higher in the pocket ...

Re: Dragonfly 2 vs Urban

Try a Lil Native. The backlock version is amazing. It is a little heavier than the Urban, which I also like, but not much heavier. I do like the Lil Native backlock (lefty here, so no comp lock for me), but it has been killed with the clip - it will still be out of pocket for at least half inch. It...

Re: Dragonfly 2 vs Urban

Let me revive this topic a bit. I'm looking for an early Christmas gift from my wife :D I do own a G10 DF2 and it does slide into the pocket, however, holding it for longer periods of time cramps my hand quite a bit. Having a Pingo also, I see that it dissapears in the pocket, unlike DF2, which does...
