Getting stoned and flattened out.
The stones that live in the garage are not well cared for. They're not for knives, they're for cutting tools or whatever I might be working on. They get pulled off the shelf when needed. They're generally slopped with cutting oil. If they get gummed up, they get put back and another stone is pulled...

Did you try slopping some lube in there?
There isn't much to go wrong with that lock. Maybe the cage is dragging on the scale before the ball is completely jammed into the gap.

Re: Question about lanyard holes.........
I'm wondering how many people use a lanyard on a pocket knife. To me, it's a useless ugly hole Yup. The hole diminishes from the aesthetics of the knife. Blech. Sometimes you can take a non-lanyard pocket clip and install it on a lanyard-holed knife, improving the looks of the knife on one side.

Re: Flattening Whestones
Why do you all appearantly use specifically a glass plate to stick sandpaper or whatever abrasive to? Why not any other hard plate? (Like some metal)? Glass is cheap. Glass is flat enough. Glass wears slowly enough. I have an old cast iron surface plate. It's not super-precise, but I'd prefer to ke...

Re: Flattening Whestones
I think you'll be happier with silicon carbide on glass. There's no need to get all theoretical and futz around with "protective layers of laminate." We're not building space shuttles here, we're flattening stones just like our ancestors have been doing for untold generations. 1. Glass 2....

Thanks!

This is why I prefer the bidirectional FRN or FRCP.
It's WAY better.

Re: The Edge Is A Ghost?
While you kids were searching for ghosts, I sharpened my knife, diced up some vegetables, prepared a stir fry for lunch, and did the dishes.
Sharpen your knife, go out and cut stuff, be happy.

Re: Building a Custom Knife for Sal: CPM S60V
Large aluminum plates with forced air to race to under 1000f Interesting. I've been sitting here for half an hour contemplating this. You can pull the blade from the furnace, unwrap it, stick it between aluminum blocks, and get it clamped before it cools too much? And then the aluminum dissipates h...

Re: Tax day MAP sale!
The philosophy that guides my life is "Buy high, sell low." I've already purchased all the knives I want when the prices were high. Now that prices are discounted, there's nothing left that I need.

Oh, never thought about bending a factory spring. Might be fun to try out. Always thought I had to make my own replacement If needed ! Interesting that you chaps want stronger springs. On all of my Spyderco back locks, I've bent the springs to provide less tension. We all have are own ideas about w...

Ain't no shame in paying for something that you want.
Good on Bento Box for getting you knife that none of the "lowball sellers" could provide.

While the furnace is heating, it we'll be nice to share some color metallography I made of CPM S60V and what excites me about it. Thanks for showing us the process. Her's a couple questions, perhaps relevant, perhaps not. When you heat treat this blade, are you using a "recipe" that is pu...

Re: Tax day MAP sale!
Not sure I get it yet, but I'm curious.
The MAP is the price that everyone else charges?
And everyone else provides free shipping?
Will there be knives for sale that aren't available elsewhere?
Yes? No? Unknown?

Re: Experienced Serrated Edge K390 users wanted.
I have three K390 knives with serrated edges, which have seen heavy to light usage. I just examined one under magnification. There is a lot of inconsistency of the serration tips, indicating wear through use. I don't consider this a problem, and would expect to see similar wear on any serrated knif...
