Re: How Shelac is made
I don't know if it is durable enough for a knife handle that would get used. It isn't like lacquer or polyurethane. Still, it would look really good. I know! But it's so "old school" that it's hard to resist. Most of my wood projects are finished in natural finishes: linseed oil, tung oil...

Re: How Shelac is made
Thanks. That video has been in my YouTube suggestions, but I didn't watch it until just now. I like the Business Insider videos. Shellac intrigues me, but I've not used it on anything since I was a little kid. How do you think it would work out on wood scales for my next Mule?

Re: Show your Flowers and plants photo
[img]Our first bloom ! Dan Very nice. That one doesn't waste any time between poking up from the dirt and flowering. I shot some flowers in the yard last week. This one is my favorite. The foliage of the blue flax is tiny and subtle, as are the flowers, but they're spectacular if you take the time ...

Re: "Delica" the Tip of a Mule 2?
I have one SPY27 OG Mule, but it's not in the field. It's in the kitchen. It's my go-to when I want a small knife. I have a couple other Mules that could assume that role, but there's nothing not-to-like about the SPY27.

My name is Bernhard, I'm from a small European country named Austria. I've been into knives my whole life, Welcome, Bernhard from Austria. We have another gentleman from Austria here, and he's an ok sort of bloke. I'm from a small city in a small county in a state on the West Coast of the U.S., and...

Re: The best "worst" serrated knives I have ever owned.
Microserrated blades are not my cuppa tea. just these are my serrated knives and my experience with them you could give anyone and they'd never have to sharpen it. You mind elaborating on why you dislike small serrations That's ok if they work well for you and you like them. You asked for our opini...

Microserrated blades are not my cuppa tea.
I need a plain edge for most things, and normal serrations when the need calls for it.

Re: "Delica" the Tip of a Mule 2?
It's prettier the way it comes from the factory, but I can see why you would want to give it the "Delica Treatment." Or you could just wait until you push it too far, and it Delicas itself. Then you could just touch it up when you get home.

Re: What is the best application to tool steel for long term storage?
What is the best stuff I can apply to tool steel for long term storage? Something that wont break down, evaporate, or leave me with a rusted edge. Maybe some sort of heavier wax? Cosmoline. It's too messy for my purposes, but you asked. I've had guns that were coated many decades earlier, and they ...

Re: Good knife friendly, reasonably priced cutting board
You guys got me motivated to replace my favorite cutting board. It's old. We've had it for decades, planed it down as needed, and it's just not optimum any more. Etsy had the best selection. I picked out a cherry board in exactly the correct dimensions that I want for a general-purpose quick-and-eas...

Re: Spyderco spotted on Survivor!
That’s one of the shirts he bought for the show over 20 years ago. I'll admit that I'm not a fanboy. I don't know the details about celebrities, what they wear, or where they shop. However, I'm skeptical of your claim that the star is wearing a 20 year old shirt that he had to go out and buy himsel...

Re: AI art knows Spyderco
We can wring our hands about how some scary gadget is going to steal our jobs and send robots from the future to kill us, or we can marvel at what we currently have and use it to our benefit. Gronk the Caveman was faced with a similar dilemma. His friends and family feared for his untimely demise. ...

Re: Spyderco spotted on Survivor!
It's unlikely that the prettyboy host with is perfect wardrobe, perfect lighting, and perfect camera angles would walk onto the set with his pockets bulging with personal belongings. I suspect the knife came from the prop master, or a gaffer who was sitting around sipping coffee.

When the Manix 2 LW 15V was first announced, I KNEW I would have one. I've been discouraged that the Reveal hasn't been revealed yet, but these pictures have reinvigorated me. I'm so excited that maybe I'll even get a Military 2.

Re: Got this email about the Emerson CQC - &, Ernie smiled his guts.
The CQC-7 was a good knife for the time. I still have a Benchmade version that predates the obsession with the flippy-wavy appendage. It's nice. I would carry it today if Spyderco didn't offer designs that were far more ergonomic and useful. The whole problem with the original CQC-7 is that it's ma...
