Re: Factory edge poll

Spyderco puts a nice edge on their knives before they leave the factory. They're perfectly usable right out of the box. However, I can never be truly happy with an edge until I make it my own. As good as Spyderco's edges are, on both that I own, there has been slight variations along each edge that ...

Re: Why no John Deere?

Deere is very covetous of their identity and their logo.
I would assume they're not easy to deal with.

Before and After

You already know what a Manix 2 LW looks like, so I'll just post the close-ups. The knife was sharp enough to be useful, and not at all shameful. But the edge wasn't all it could be, and I was bored. So I got out a little pocket magnifier and the iPhone and began to play. Upon seeing a serrated edge...

Re: Cannot loosen pivot screw

I'm using Wiha drivers and putting tons of downward and lateral pressure simultaneously. Y'know... tools become rounded and dull, just like knives. If you've used or abused your fancy Wiha driver for a while, it's likely that the tip is rounded off. Standard practice is to grind the tip of your too...

Re: Spyderco Knives

Is this really worth the high msrp? Are the quality of these knives really THAT much better? Well, to me the price isn't all that high compared to other "nice" knives that I've purchased over the years. I always thought that Spyderco's had a weird look about them, so they were never on my...

Re: Why all the Manix love?

I like to carry a knife that when I take it out around people, that may not necessarily be into knives, say that’s a nice knife. I don’t like to have to sell the ergo’s every time to them. I like to be discrete and avoid flashing my knives in public. It makes some people uneasy, and waving around a...

Re: What did you use your Spyderco for last?

I've used the knife a couple times since then, but last Friday we went out for sushi, and I thought it would be cool to use my Manix 2 with S110V to slice some larger creations into smaller, bit-size pieces. The results were gorgeous, as if the chef had done it himself. Of course my edge has seen a ...

Re: Help convince me that FRN handles are better than they look..

I think it was the blue Manix 2 LW that gave me my first initial bad impression about the looks of FRN. Hmmm... I actually like it. I like the color, I like the looks of the pattern, and I like the grippiness of the pattern in my hand. I like the lightness, and so far, the material is durable. Unti...

This thread reminds me of elementary school children that argue over who has the better shoes that make them jump higher. Hooray! You've just won the award for the most succinct post of the day! I was thinking to myself, "WTF am I reading this thread? It's like schoolboys arguing the merits of...

Maybe this was gone over before, not sure, but... tonight I was cutting tomatoes for a salad with my Military. And I noticed something... the military, which I seldom carry daily because it seems "too big" to some people... could barely slice a tomato. Well... let's look at it another way...

Re: Top 5 knives you actually carry

1. Manix 2 LW: The shape is suitable for general purpose work and fits the hand nicely for "serious business." It's light. It's thin. The S110V holds a sweet edge. The lock spring is too strong. 2. Benchmade Adamas: It's big. The D2 can be made really sharp. The lock and action are SWEET, ...

Manix 2 LW:
The spring on the ball bearing lock is excessively strong. I would adjust it, but the bloody knife is riveted together!!!

Otherwise, the knife is very nice. But I don't think I would buy it again knowing what I do now.

Re: New Tenacious - Help Needed with Loosening the Pivot Screw

Well... the characteristics of Loctite are not as simple as that. If you dig deeper into the specifications, you'll find that there is not a tight/loose event that occurs between 499 degrees and 501 degrees. It's more of a linear softening of the thread-locker. If I need to heat a fastener, I'm typi...

Re: Spyders under a microscope

Those are some interesting images. Curious, I just grabbed a printer's glass off my desk and put my iphone up to it. Surprisingly (to me), I got a pretty good shot of the knife that was in my pocket. When polishing an edge, I use stronger magnifiers to watch the work progress. I can't wait to see if...

Re: The Show youre manixes thread.

Got her a couple weeks ago. Never owned a Spyderco before, but the ball bearing lock intrigued me, so I bagged this one. The thinness and lightness immediately caught my attention. The pattern on the FRCP keeps the knife secrure, without being grating. The fit in my hand, especially when choking up ...

Re: Bent tip on my Para 3 LW

A knife that gets used is going to get little dings. Use it much, and it will eventually get some dings that can be seen without the aid of magnification. Enjoy using the knife every day, and when it gets blemishes, as it surely will, then enjoy the craftsmanship and artistry of restoring the edge t...

Re: Easy knife sharpener for beginner

I used to dabble with a Sharpmaker-style sharpener back in the 80's. I find the style moderately effective and basic. I have a Lansky that I got when I decided to get serious. I used it a couple times, and I see how it could be useful, and in fact the sole sharpener for some people. Not a bad way to...

Re: Ganzo knives...Spyderco/BM clone

I have a bunch of top-shelf knives, and recently I bagged a couple Ganzos just because they seemed intriguing. I'm a sucker for the Benchmade Axis Lock, and Ganzo ripped off that idea and put it on some of their knives. The Ganzos that I picked up have the Benchmade-style lock, and some Emerson-like...
