Spyders under a microscope

I decided to take a look at some steel under an old jeweler's microscope. These knives are all close to new with factory edges. Re: Cara Cara 2 very stiff.

Hmm, maybe it just needs some breaking in. It sounds like the stiffness is from the lock bar.

Re: Cara Cara 2 very stiff.

I wonder if the lock spring is too tight? How is the stiffness when you depress the lock while opening it?

Re: Mantras and Parkinsons

Thanks guys. My dad is back home now, and it looks like he is going to have a better chance of getting into a care home after his recent health complications.

Re: Mantras and Parkinsons

Congrats on your new knife and best wishes to your dad for a speedy recovery from his wrist injury! I was not aware that Spyderco donated to Parkinson's on the Mantras., but it doesn't surprise me considering what good corporate citizens they are. I think they're cool knives but I think I like the ...

Probation period

How long is it until I can post without approval from admin?

Thanks!

Edit: disregard- it appears that 10 posts is the magic number. :)

Re: Is your dog a druggie?

The only question I could possibly ask at the point is what Spyderco knife should I buy next and why? :spyder: I asked Baldr (the guy in my avatar), and he suggested a PM3. Maybe put aftermarket vomit green scales on it. https://photos.smugmug.com/Picture-a-Week/2016/03192016b/i-n8QTcFz/1/e6293020/...

the eBay coupons are non existent these days.
There was a 15% off earlier this month. There will probably be another before the month is out because it's also quarter-end.
I still see a 10% off discount for this month- MARCH10. I used the 15% off coupon to get a Mantra 2 :)

Re: Manix2 lock too stiff or....

The spring itself won't loosen up (springs don't do that). In my opinion it would more likely be the the mechanism itself. As the parts break in, the ballbearing cage will slightly wear in with use. Actually, a spring that's held under compression will take a set over time and effectively lose stre...

Re: Help me decide which spydie to buy next

I just picked up a Native 5 LW and it is a lot of knife for it's size. I am impressed how sturdy the handle is even without liners.

Mantras and Parkinsons

I was browsing the Spyderco page and noticed the charitable partnerships section. If Spyderco wasn't my favorite knife maker before well they sure are now! My dad suffers from Parkinson's disease. It has been hitting him hard lately and he has been a regular visitor to the hospital lately due to all...

Re: Show off your latest purchase

First post, second Spyderco!

I thought I would get my hands on a Native 5 in S35VN before they all dry up. This was the last plain edge lightweight at my (almost) local store.
