As for protection, it is a very weak coating when thin, over time, when formed naturally it will make a very thick black scale that is very resistant to being penetrated by the orange rust - but again this is very different than jamming a blade into heated acids. Ah. To a non-metallurgist like me, ...

Does Superblue 'patina' help prevent more serious 'pitting' later?
I don't have any SB yet, but I will probably get an SB Stretch. Does working on getting a patina all over the blade protect it from more serious 'rust pitting' later, or is it mainly for the visual look? Thanks!

Do be aware that you will be voiding the warranty, although Spyderco will still be willing to sharpen the blade if you send it in to them. A few years ago someone was selling red-handled trainers for really cheap, so I got one, did the swap (both blade and lockbar), and now I have a fully-serrated E...

SS is normally my least favorite grip material - but - I like having a variety of Spydies with different physical traits (including grip materials), and I really like my SS Lava as one of my three small, formal-dress, suit-jacket-pocket options (along with a Kopa and a small Dyad). The SS Lava is th...

Scooby, I don't know if you are interested at all, but there have been limited runs of 'Border Patrol' Spydercos made in the past, that had Border Patrol insignia etched onto both the blade and the handle. I believe there was both a Delica and Endura version made. I don't know much about them, but I...

Rosconey, I am so very, very sorry for your loss. My canine companion is getting up there in years, and had a 'stroke' (idiopathic vestibular event) around Thanksgiving, and thinking she was leaving, I was completely bereft. She's recovering, but it greatly saddens me even thinking about the day tha...

My British racing green waved Delica is my favorite EDC 'beater' (but not abused) knife. It's the one that gets the most pocket time with me. I don't know if the thickness of the saber grind blade actually makes it stronger than some of the other similarly-sized flat-grind spydies, but it just seems...

I once whipped out a Spydie - I'm pretty sure it was a Dragonfly, but it could have been a Delica - to help someone open a gift, at a Sunday brunch, in a nice restaurant, and my brother-in-law's parents noticeably stiffened in their seats. I think it was the 'click'. I don't spend a lot of time with...
