Re: Putting utility aside, what's the best looking Spyderco ever made ?

“Putting utility aside” when assessing the beauty of a “form-follows-function”, “designed in the dark” Glesser-creation is, of course, sacrilegious. But, in the spirit of this thread, I think the C54 Calypso is about as elegant as can be. I know I’m not alone. Thanks to a Forum member, I acquired a...

Re: What was your first Spyderco?

I still have my first one, a Delica with the FRN pocket clip, that I bought at Edgewater Mall in Biloxi, MS back in 1991. This little knife was so remarkably different from everything else around it in the case that I just had to try it, and that was all she wrote. I've got a hoard of Syprderco kni...

Re: Let's get hyped for the Amalgam!

Well, sixteen months later, the Amalgam is still going strong and sharp in Afghanistan. I've used it daily for just about everything a knife is appropriate for, and it has certainly delivered. I would dearly love to see a version in Zome green or brown, or coyote or green G10, with a DLC coated blade.

I Might Just...

Have the coolest son ever.

He sent me a Spyderco Street Bowie for Christmas overseas, which I am now carrying weak side under my gun belt.

He knows me well, and I love him dearly, for he is an outstanding young man in every measure.

Merry Christmas, everyone.

Re: Let's get hyped for the Amalgam!

The Amalgam is holding up quite well so far. Spring has sprung in Afghanistan, and the roses they grow here are in full bloom!

Re: What did you use your Spyderco for last?

I used "Cam," the Traveling Delica, for whittling a stick I found on the ground at the US Embassy Compound in Kabul, AFG. I was passing the time waiting for the truck I was escorting to finish downloading, and it was a nice way to stave off the boredom.

Re: Native Chief - Can we get a heartbeat?

Definitely looking forward to getting my hands on the Native Chief! It is reminiscent of the original Calypso, which is and always has been one of my favorite knives of all time.

Re: point durability on Military?

I carried mine for a year in Africa, and a year in the field before that, and never had an issue. If you use your knife as a knife, it'll hold up just fine for as many years as you have in you. I've had a couple of borrowed knives returned with boogered up points when I was younger and dumber, and n...

Re: My take on the Spyderco Police...

I have an older Police Model, fully serrated, that was very slippery in the hand until I masked it off and alox blasted the scales with a few passes, and now it stays put in either hand or pocket. The dull finish is nice to have when I don't want to "advertise." I let a buddy of mine borro...

Re: Blood Groove: What is the truth behind it?

The above posts nailed it exactly. Bloviating journalists and Hollywood writers probably had more to do with this kind of folklore being propagated than anything else.

Re: Blending EDC with Self Defense

I've carried one flavor of Endura or another for this very purpose over the years, and don't feel like I would be at any disadvantage thereby. I recently ordered an Amalgam that I will be carrying as part of my layered defensive equipment here in Afghanistan, but I don't anticipate every getting to ...

Re: Keep coming back to my Spydercos

I know exactly what you mean, OP. I bought my first Spyderco back in 1991, a Delica Clipit with the old style molded plastic clip, and carried it every day. After a while, I needed something a bit larger for the cutting tasks I was doing, so I bought an Endura Clipit, and carried that one at work fo...

Re: Let's get hyped for the Amalgam!

I've been wanting a bigger Spyderco for some time, but was never able to find one that really "spoke" to me, until now. Just placed an order for an Amalgam, and can't wait to get my hands on it. I'm currently working in Afghanistan, and I've bought a new Spyderco prior to every deployment ...
